First Sculpt of a PREDATOR... ever. WIP

REYALS1

I have no experience with sculpting, and decided to try it out (since I will need to get the experience if I want to make my own suit). I decided to just by some sculpey, and try my hand... here are the current results.

Feedback is appreciated.

:) Great job!
I guess Narin's little video got your juices flowing.

Let me give you a bit of a tip. If I'm not mistaken, your using the white regular sculpey. Try using the pink stuff "Super Sculpey" ("SS") instead. It comes in a smaller (green) box. Youll' be able to get better detail and it is not as soft as that one. The S white won't let you see your work to well and does not hold detail that well.
Also try mixing the "SS"with some "Sculpey III" black ("SIII" comes in little packs). It will make "SS" a gray color which will be less translucent and easier to see the details.

Keep up the great work!

Tom

Hey, thank you very much for the input tjm023. I will get to the hobby store a.s.a.p., and hopefully they have the type you recomended.

I did notice that the sculpy Im currently using IS quite soft, and hard to work with (even my wife told me so), so I will be doing a different sculpt all together as soon as I get some more sculpy. I dont really have the sculpting tools, so I am actually using house hold objects, and tools to sculpt with. I will probably finish this one, and then do what has to be done with it.

As for that NARIN vid... yeah, he made it look sooooo easy, so I had to try sculpting (like I will ever be as good as he, but its worth the experience, and worth getting my own style right).

Thank you once again.

Great start dude, what scale would you say it is?
Im not quite sure... medium (not sure how the scale system works)? Well, let me put it this way... if you own/seen the PREDATOR: DEFEATED minibust by palisades, its around the size of that ones head.

How does the scale system work anyway?

Hey!!! Thats looking pretty good! Keep the progress pics comin....

By the way, is he going to have lower mandibles?

AL :)

oooh im hooked

i see a lot of similiarities from the narin vid

very nice work

the only thing i see that kinda irritates me is the lower teeth

they look a little long

but other than that im lookin forward to seein this progress

btw, what kinda clay are you usin?

it looks jus like the clay narin used in the video

Yes, , I will probably add them later on.

rock-tusk-pred- btw, what kinda clay are you usin?

Regular old sculpey.

Ill more than likely re-do the lower teeth also. I dont really like em that much either (I love being my own critic).

I commend your bravery, I tried this same thing probably three times and got so pissed off I gave up. But after seeing your enthusiasm I might have to give it a fourth go, please post some pics of your progress on the next bust. I am very interested in seeing it. :)

Well... I commend you, on commending me on my bravery ... no, Im just kidding.

Yeah man, I am a "draw-er" more than anything ('cept for drums), but decided to try my hand at the wonderful world of SCULPTING!!!

I am having a hard time getting to bed now because of my new found passion, and am soooo excited to start doing more, and more, and more. My wife likes to do artistic things also, so she really gives me the boost I need to achieve my "vision".

I am always opened for criticism, and helpful hints... did I mention I was always opened for "helpful hints" *wink, wink*

Thanks Moloch, I hope you get back into it, and I hope you are provided with the patience needed to create.

hey thats good for the 1st time! :)
but why didnt u add the lower mandbiles??? or u will add them later?
good job i cant wait to c ur next

All the basic shapes are there. What tools are you using to shape with? I recommend going to a swapmeet, fleamarket or even ebay and grabbing up a handful of used dental tools of various shapes and sizes..they will come in handy as you get into more detail work. Looking good bro keep it up. :)

Awesome work there well done!

Anychance of reposting that link to the video? (yes I know thats very lazy of me)

thanks RTB, having a torn rotator cuff and back injury makes staying in fron t of poota painful,
hence todays laziness, normally I wouldnt be so bold,

thanks for reposting it thou :)

Actually, Im mainly using my hands, a multi tooled pocket knife, some "craft" wire, paint brush ends, and whatever else I can get my hands on in this house. Yeah, I need to get to the hobby store, and see about purchasing some new sculpey, and tools. I had heard that dental tools work really well, so I will more than likely be looking at investing in some of those also.

Thank you for looking everyone.

Had some time to work a little more on this piece.

I am having alot of fun with this project right now, and hope to have it as complete as I can make it w/in a week, or so.

I ordered a set of "dental tools", so that I may get a little more detail, and smooth some things out on it, but I think it is coming along fairly well. I am also going to try and make it have a little more of a torso to it, so that I can try and put some armour, and all that good stuff (I am thinking that will be before dreads though).

A question if I may though...

1. How long would you "bake" something like this, and can you still attach pieces after the original piece is baked?

Thanks people.

Here are a couple of updated Pic's...

Early after work.
