Hello all,

I am pretty new to the forums, but I have completed my first project....Thor's hammer, Mjolnir.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Hey, welcome and congrats on finishing! Would you happen to have any larger pics? The attached versions only come up at 160x120... It's difficult to make out the details.

Looks GREAT! What did you make it out of?

Looks great! Very strong showing for your first project! Would love to see some "making of" pics if you've got any. I would NEVER have guessed that came from a block of foam!

That looks really good!

How did you do the inscription?

Nice job!

Thanks,

I did the text in Adobe Illustrator from a font I found, printed it off, rubbed graphite on the back of the printout, drew over the letters with a pencil to transfer the letters on the foam and carved out the letters with an awl. Pretty easy, but a bit time consuming.

I made the mistake of not taking progress pictures for this project, but will take some for my next ones. I'm actually going to try and make an entire Thor costume. Since I based my hammer on the comics, my costume will follow that as well.

Here's a picture of what I am basing my costume off of. The hardest part, for me will be figuring out the tunic. Also the wings will be a bit different, but the main part of the helm will look pretty similar.

Very cool!

I did a Thor Costume many years ago for Halloween.

The hammer was made from a couple of pieces of 2 x 4 with beveled edges, a wooden shovel handle and wrapped in leather.

For a helmet, I used a metal strainer from the kitchen, wrapped it in aluminum foil and glued some cardboard wings that had been painted silver to it.

The hammer was given to a friend's son, who was named Thor, for his birthday.

Look forward to seeing your progress!

Looks fantastic, thanks for sharing and not being lame about what you used to make it, this is a great example of how someone who wants to make a cool replica doesn't have to be a zillionaire or a machinist, just gotta be smart and use use what you've got available. (y)thumbsup

Love it!

Thanks a lot for the comments. I'm trying my best at doing the rest of Thor's costume the same way. As smart and cheap as I can without being "cheap" looking. I don't have any images yet of the rest of my costume, but I'll be posting them on my Thor Costume-Need Help thread. Just gotta find time to get this done. The hammer is the only thin I have done and I am planning on wearing to a Halloween party this year. Time is running out.
