First Graflex Luke ANH saber, who did it?

As many consider the Luke ANH saber a Holy Grail of prop-dom, who was the first person to actually put all the parts together as a replica? I was a member of the ASAP board in 2000 and that's how I found the RPF and the Luke saber info. was the topic which broght me into the world of prop replicas as I wanted to have one. This was back in the $400+ Graflex days! So who was the "maker"?

I don't think anyone has found the EXACT track used for the grip.

I did a half a dozen Graflexes into saber between Star Wars and Empire, with various type of grips and d-rings.

I did one in the early '80s with T-shaped grips assembled from leather, glued on with leather glue. The D-ring was probably attached with Chicago screws. I think I sold it at a con in the '90s, either LA or SF.

Wow, I know I made a ton of them and sold them here in the 90's, but I don't by any means claim to be the first one to realize it and building them. Nor would that be quite an easy claim to make.

I remember around 96 I aquired a bunch of them locally and got my first one in mint conditon for $10. I would go to local shops and literallly walk out with at least 2 or 3 in a box of junk that I paid $20 for. There was a time when I used to turn my nose up at a camera guy trying to charge me $40 for one. :lol It's funny how around 98-99 the prices jumped and jumped and now they are fairly reasonable again...not $20,but not $500 like they were going for at one time. I've sold all of them except for first one that I got that was minty fresh. I don't think I'll ever sell that one. It was my second lightsaber ever.:love
