JOEL'S WATCH - 2023
Now on Etsy! LINK HERE.Hello everyone, if you are familiar with our work in The Last of Us HBO Joel Thread, you will know that we have been hard at work getting down to the nitty gritty of what supports our apocalyptic hero Joel Miller, played by Pedro Pascal in HBO's amazing TV adaptation.
In a passionate plea to do this right, I was able to pull together sources from the show’s prop department that confirmed every single piece that makes up Joel's watch from the show itself, and present it to you now for sale in a limited run.
Newer crack design Mk II. A cleaner, and more realistic (no filtered photos) - now confirmed as the watch Pedro wears in the Museum scenes! All photos below this photo are from the MK I, original design.
Photos below are from MK I crack design.
(Crown is pulled out and adjusted to match hero watch time).
(Watch glass will be more simplistic to the hero watch - mine was done as a test).
These watches are screen accurate replicas made with 99% the same parts as the ones you see on the screen (the crown however, no longer exists, BUT this crown is more in line with the versions used on screen - as opposed to the HBO photo above).
**These are NOT mass produced Alibaba wholesale “Joel watches” inspired by the game **
Specs:
Case Diameter: 38 mm
Movement: Japanese Quartz
Lug width: 20 mm
Dial: Laser cut, etched, anodized aluminum 26 gauge (not a Vinyl sticker).
Hands: Hand painted, "Pilot watch"hands
Subdial: Non-working (the watch used in the show was non-working as well).
Please keep in mind that every watch is unique, and has the inner workings that will allow it to be an actual working timepiece on your wrist (or not; by taking out battery). You get to decide! Nothing like an actual working watch on your wrist!
At present, this will be considered an interest post for a batch of "Post Breakout Joel Watches" honorably titled "Joel's Watch 2023".
Here are some things I'm looking at with this project:
If you guys would like a watch, please "love" this post, and then DM me.
I'm not sure my batch run yet, but honestly it might be 20 in the first batch (I'm a one man army, so I'll try my best! 20 per batch is honestly the goal!).
I will open up more batches afterwards.
Given that there are certain parts that will have to get bought (the watch that the case is made of, the straps, the internal parts, parts made by hand, actual metal dials created, the etc), the price will reflect buying of parts/shipping/labor etc.
Reminders:
Remember, this is a real watch, screen accurate to the exact watch on the show - even the watch glass, is the exact one every time (it's highly worked UV resin made from a mold, so you don't lose your fingers lol). This might be a WIP as I try to continously perfect the resin to make the cracks more perfect - so your watch will have better looking cracks!
If they show the watch more prominently in Season 2, showing a better “crack”, my design might change. Thank you to ClockWorkProps for helping with the crack design!!
*don’t forget that it’s meant to be a destroyed and weathered watch. Only part that is not available/entirely screen accurate is the crown - which is no longer made, but the current one is pretty accurate.
*also, I chose the crack design that I did, based on a watch from the show where they cracked actual mineral glass (the last photo above). The other watches shown from the show are resin made, damaged and cracked, but I felt that to bring realism to the final design, to base it off a version that actually had broken glass.
*It should also be noted that this watch is not water proof or resistant. If you wash your hands vigorously, or go swimming, you will get water inside, and could short the movement, so please be aware and always proceed with caution (I’ve washed my hands, and managed not to get the watch wet).
This is how my process will go.
Once I get an idea of batch/interest size, I will have a time table (ish) of how I want to go about creating.
1. Interest taking window from now (Now until End of August - might extend it if I don't reach my batch size, or might stop if I get too many lol)
2. I will take interest in order of when DMs are received in my inbox, and I will respond.
3. I have to order each watch case, then the parts, then start working on making prints of internals, piecing together and the watch glass (usually a day or 2 per watch)
4. Once I reach 20 requests in my inbox, I'll have to cut the commissions until I am able to produce a second, third, fourth, etc, batch. Anyone over 20, I'll add you guys to the next batch!
5. and this is just for me! When and if I create my Etsy store, would love reviews from those here who got a watch, to get this thing in the spotlight for help spreading the word!
6. Expect about a 2-3 weeks per watch once the interest window closes (for ordering parts, then working on them - More than likely watches will be done end of September in to October - times might change for the better, depending on circumstances etc).
If this project goes successfully, the next project will be Joel's watch "Birthday Addition"!
TLDR:
…and it can be yours for $344.99!
(Not including shipping and tax)Get it in time for Hollywood Horror Nights and Halloween!
Birthday watch will be $399.99 when project runs.
(*keep in mind, a brand new Lum-Tech costs around $1900, and Joel's watch is the actual one Pedro wears!).
Reserve yourself a watch now!
DM for inquiries.
