Firefly visual companion Volume 2.

I recently picked up this book as well and there are some pics of the Heart Paddles used on Mal during his torture scene. They look like the same ones that Simon used to save a heart patient on "Ariel"

I thought they looked like part of a car antenna or maybe a desktop pen holder with leather wrapped around it/ Anyone want to start to ID that?

Got it, was a bit let down
The first volume was much better I thought... and all the "Gee I loved this..." or "Gee I loved that" quotes from the cast, just seemed a little sugar coated

but on a content note, what I thought was missing was:

no good pics of Early's gun
no renders of Early's ship
no good pics of the Lassiter
no renders of the fighters from "The Message"

lots of stuff I thought should be there, and wasn't

I have three of my four all metal, Denix-based, Jayne Cobb LeMats finished.

The FOC Vol.II shows the areas where my pistol isn't perfect, but unless you displayed the pistol with the pictures, I don't think most would know or care about the flaws.
They look like Jayne Pistols and heft like Jayne pistols.
The Denix based replica is still the best way to go without spending $700-$1,000 on a Pietta LeMat, and then spending to modify THAT!
I'm sure it would be easy to drop fifteen hundred dollars to two grand on a truly accurate Jayne Cobb LeMat.

Too rich for my blood!
Mike

Another great replica. Look, guys, I wasn't attacking your replica jayne guns, in my first post. I was just surprised by the real one. THAT'S ALL. There were little differences that I noticed, and liked about the real one. I know the Denix is the only affordable option out there. Heck I have 6 denix Mausers I'm making into star wars blasters, so it's not like I don't work with Denix myself. (Though, I am fixing as many of the small inaccuraces as I can on the mausers.)

Wall, I really did enjoy this book, I do agree about the missing stuff. I also would have like to have better pics of Anara's gun from "Trash" The voice recorder from "The Message. The screen used blue handed guys weapon thingy, and not just a really good pic of the prototype.

I Like the "sugar coated" comments, though. That's the real feeling I get from the people that worked on the show, in any interview, or anything I've seen them in. It's better then the usual stories we heir from back stage of most show. You know, at first, when a show ends, their all like, I'm going to miss everyone, etc. etc. Then years later they say, I hated everyone, and everything about working on that show, and I'm glad it's over. It's refreshing to heir about a show that people liked making as much as I like watching it. :)

It's not that I didn't enjoy it, it's that it seems like all the relevent interviews had been done in the first volume, and they didn't have anything new to say... so they gushed

In spite of being very disappointed to read there are no good pics of Jubal's gun, Inara's gun from "Trash", and renders of Jubal's and the Police ship... I'm looking forward to picking up this book. I'm still relatively early in my Jayne's pistol replica, so it's great to learn that there are a lot of detailed pics.

Really wish there were some good ones of Jubal's gun and the Police ship from "The Message" though :cry

I know I didn't take it as you attacking my replica, I was just trying to brag that I got the details pretty accurate. LOL ;)

As far as Jayne's gun is concerned and the replicas available, I let racprops use my research for reference for his all metal replicas. His even included a split cylinder, but he wasn't able to do the complete custom cylinder. My plan is to hopefully offer high quality casts of mine when it's complete at as low as possible prices. I intend to have as many of the parts individually cast as possible.

Just heard that the picture of the bullets was not on the part of the owner of the peices. He wasnt consulted for that. Goofy aint it. They are indeed the grenade rounds.

Ok, where's the smiley face for drooling. :) I'm pretty happy with how my cheapy resin kit is coming along, but its FAR from accurate, so I would love to get a good one. Some one here, offered one last summer that wasn't bad, and there's the metal ones of course. (which I keep thinking I can't afford, but I never actually inquired about the price. :lol) Even the unconverted Denix is kind of cool, but I can never find them for sale. (there always out of stock. :( )

My friend and I have been discussing it as a project for after we get our other projects done. ;)

I'll be doing one, just as soon as they make an airsoft, that would work for the base gun. (I'm not holding my breth.)

You could use an AK. I've got a cheapo knockoff AK sniper rifle that's pretty close.

neat!

I like the extra little icons we see here and there.. I wonder if we can place them to any on Dobson's PDA? And by any chance is that techy looking header to the inset quotes the same one as on Simon's encyclopedia in the deleted scenes? I can't recall the graphic offhand and my DVDs are out on loan.

All told... I'd have liked more and better pictures of the rest of the little stuff as well, but I reckon it was okay. Worth getting, anyway. :)

I've seen a couple of posts on other forums by folks in the Airsoft community working on AK to Saiga-12 conversions. Vera is so heavily modded that you probably wouldn't be using whole lot of the base gun anyway.

Pretty much my thoughts, Hey, where's a machinist when you need one....Simon :lol

I bought a spetnaz AK for my base gun, and I'm working on having some of the custom parts outsourced (I'm sure I'll get those done in the next year or so ;). I'm also looking to pick up a few all brass 12 gauge shells too. Though I have considered just painting PVC gold.

They said the sheath was found. Though, if your good at leather working, then it would probably be easier just to do your own. I'm no good with leather, so I'm going to have to find one to buy.

I'm the same way as you about the whole laid back thing. One of these days I'll learn that I can't do laid back. Every time I do, I end up redoing it, because I'm too fussy. :)

Yowzers...$50 for a simple leather sheath?

On another note, I'd like to find a replica of the Mule's license plate they show at the top of page 29. That would look great on my Jeep.
