Firefly - Niska's Knife and Other Items

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything on this piece. It's been a little while since a "search for a Firefly prop" thread has been here, so I thought I'd bring this particular prop some attention:

Apologies for the shoddy 'caps, if someone wants to post better, please do so. Anyone know what the base knife is, or if any modifications were made at all? I don't recognise it in the slightest.

Another prop I was curious about; Niska's "Pet":

Does anyone know if it was scratch-built, or any other details about it? It sort of looks like a part of a toy playset, or something.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

And mount it to a board with Mals ear nailed next to it.:eek I have seen several similar but the guard on this one is different than any of them.

I'll double check in the Visual Companion, but I'm pretty sure the "pet" was scratch built.

The knife looks to be one of the many craptastic "fantasy" offerings from lower end cutlery catalogs.

Yeah, Niska's pet was scratch built for the show.

I saw the knife in a cheap shop the other day, but I didn't have any money on me. I went home to get my wallet and they had sold it, and apparently won't be getting any more in. Gorram it!
