Firefly badges of the 'verse...

I kinda hijacked David's thread about the patches before, sorry David!

I've been working on three Firefly 'verse badges, Sheriff Bourne's gold badge.

A small version of the Independant's insignia, although we only ever see patches, I think this small gold badge would work well in the 'verse and would probably be worn by officer class (excepting the LT who seems to have lost his).

The third badge is of course the gorram Alliance badge, it wasn't clear from the pix in the Companion how large the Alliance badges were, so I assumed LAPD badge style and it's slightly bigger than that. It could go in a fold out wallet, something that might have been carried by the 'blue glove guys' or it could be worn on a uniform tunic.

These are all fresh out of the moulds today and I have yet to paint them, there's also a chance I can get some made in metal, which would really make them go well with the Mal gun.

These are Firefly versions, I know the Serenity Alliance badge is completely different.

keep in mind that you can get them molded in a cheaper metal like pewter, we can have um plated!

Yes - padded leather thats how I envisage the outer ring around the Fed badge - or padded resin as I currently have it!

I haven't so far managed to grab a useable image from the CDs for any other badges.

I'd be happy with a set in resin to keep costs, including shipping, down. Since I changed jobs the prop budget has been severely cut.....cut? hell how about almost nonexistent!

Also I find working with resin easier than metal. So if you decide on a resin run I'm in.

Here's a little something to compare...

I know it's a bit too late to re-size the Alliance badge, buuut would it be possible to introduce a "curve" to the sheriff's badge? It looks to me like they are slightly convex.

The Sheriff's badge does have a little curve to it - hasn't photographed well, I can always curve it more.

That pic is stunning! I can now make one the correct size, I'll keep the other as a 'wallet' size and the new one as 'full size'.

Y'know, you might want to approach Sidkit with these, he has a few metal badges on his site. Maybe you can work out a deal for him to produce them in metal?

I don't think they have a dome, they are raised quite a lot though?

No problem making the Alliance badges in two parts, outer raised leather ring and backing could be black resin with a metal inner badge.

Agreed and unfortnately my measurements were wrong, the Alliance badge is huge 106 x 74mm, the Sheriff's badge 60 x 52mm, should have new sculpts ready in a couple of days.
