I'm pretty new to the prop world here and I just invested in my first screen-used props! :)

These were used near the begining of the episode "Ariel" by Kaylee and Inara as they play cards. Any ideas on how to protect and/or display them would be very much appreciated!

I display my BSG cubits in a floating desk frame/display... I cut out the mat so you can see both sides of the coin. (and yes, in the pic it is sitting on a Cylon Basestar bench.)

The frame was less than $15 at Aaron Brothers. They give out coupons like tic tacs too!

Thanks, that's a great idea! Its inexpensive and it looks good too. :D

Cash coins.

Ok, I looked over at the firefly archives, and I see that they used a hand full of different sizes of these coins. I did some searching, to buy some, but I'm finding there are a ton of different cash coins, made of (what looks like) a lot of different materials. Does anyone know what spusiffic ones where used on the show. (i.e. "denomination", material they are made from, and/or dynasty?)

Just like other items on the show, many were purchased off the shelf's of Chinatown junk shops in Los Angeles. There were a particular few most items came from but they are all pretty much the same, narrow walking aisles with over filled tables of random items. some have random loose coins and packaged or carded coins. Most are repro's or forgeries but there are many real deal coins to be had. Dont forget these are tourist trinkets. They would just hit the shops and grab stuff that fit the bill. What separates the trinkets from the screen used ones is the screen used ones are just that, screen used. Its the same thing as if you took a pair of Parasol sunglasses and put them on a Terminator. Now they are worth something more than their off the shelf price.

These are all random Firefly used coins. Ive got a few of the cards as well.

It's habitual..once you start collecting screen props...you can't stop

so very very true!! at first i only chased regular, common collectibles and replica props and swore i would never move to screenused. well, in a moment of weakness many years ago I bought my first one, and the ball started rolling. it has continued to pick up steam over the years with only an occassional applications of brakes, but never for too long, :lol. it can be quite addicting.
