Finished C-3PO (RotS) - Pic Intensive

Certainly one of the very best C-3POs I have seen. And your rationale for choosing the RotS version makes a lot of sense.

Congratulations on a spectacular job! :love

Thanks again for the compliments guys!

that is just awesome, the finish is really smooth, how and what was the surface finish you had before metalizing ?

and if you're looking for hand pistons I have a set available :)

Hey Xeno! Most of the surfaces were fiberglass, I primered them with an automotive primer, and wetsanded with 600grit. It seems to me that the smoother the surface, the easier it is for the finish to chip off. But you still want it to be shiny, so wetsanding is a must! They complimented me on my prep work, and stated that thats the only reason that the finish came out so nice. He said "If you give us a turd, we will give you back a gold turd"

My ABS shoes chip/peal very easily, It would have been a good idea to primer them first. Im glad I got an extra pair VMed, I figured they would get beat up. The metal parts are treated differently and the finish seems to adhere much better.

I saw your pistons, and I did want a set! But I was turned off by the fact that they didn't have screw holes :/ I think Ill probably cave though and buy a set and have the holes machined. You did a beautiful job on them!

I forgot to ask how much the vac-met cost?

I personally think I got a great deal, but I'm starting to think I could have done better. When I got there I made the mistake of saying "So I hear it costs about $900 for the whole suit", and they charged me exactly $900+tax ($969.75). Im beginning to wonder what would have happened if I had said $800 :rolleyes Heh, but you never know...

You just had to ask :lol, I will make some screw holes in the ones I have, if that is whats keeping people from buying a set:love

and making a double set of feet is smart thinking and I'm going to do that too !

WOW Ian! That has turned out absolutely stunning! :eek

You guys have to read the blog to see how much work went into this including some of the little accurate details such as hinges on the shoulders and legs.

How did you end up attaching the shoulder rings to the torso? I'm stuck there!

Have you submitted this costume to Rebel Legion yet? Oh yeah, are you thinking of attending Free Comic Book day as C-3P0?

Thanks again guys!!

Not yet! Thank God... And I can get pretty crabby in the suit. I'm sure the day will come :p

They were very fast! It took 10 days or so! I was shocked.

I still haven't come up with a decent system for this... Assuming you have a Bartlett suit, they kind of stay on with a little bit of brute force, but mine are always popping off. Ive solved in temporarily with a little bit of Velcro on the top and bottom, but I'm still brainstorming :rolleyes

Not yet, I will eventually. And I imagine I will attend a Free Comic book event! (assuming theres an adequate changing area, and no stairs :))

I did a small event this past weekend:
