Finished - 1:1 Millenium Falcon Bench Build

Re: 1:1 Millenium Falcon Bench Build

Nice job....
is it the ANH, ESB or TFA chesscorner??
because there are some differences !!

keep up the good work !!

Re: 1:1 Millenium Falcon Bench Build

Thanks everyone!! Hoping to bring some smiles at Emerald City Comic Con.

Was able to finish the latex work on the cushioned foam/fabric seats earlier this week, they are not very accurate, but they will be much more comfortable for guests and won't get scratched up. I think they look the part though, and they have a nice rubbery feel to them. Still quite a bit a weathering to do on the upper hard cushion backs.

Fantastic! What did you use for the panel lights?

For the larger lights I am using a plumbing nut part, some clear acrylic christmas tree ornaments from Hobby Lobby that I cut up, and some colored cellophane with some stiff opaque cloth behind to diffuse the light. Seems to work well enough!

I've been printing out the light housings, and found that printing a couple layers of plastic works very well at diffusing the 1" square lights. I just hit them with some spray adhesive and stick them to the acrylic squares.

Thanks! I tend to do a fair bit of research before starting a project like this, so I am certainly aware of these differences :) I am doing my best to replicate the ANH bench, I used the ESB blueprints for scale though as thats all I could find (not the top console boxes, just the height/width of the seats), and since I couldn't find any good pictures of the ottoman, I am replicating the one from TFA. The TFA bench looks pretty darn close to the ANH bench, they did a pretty good job! Although its funny that the bench and Dejarik table changed for ESB, and then changed back (for the most part) in TFA :p

The side of the bench (tunnel side) is different between ANH (angled) and ESB (straight), also the underside of the bench is different (Pm me for pics)
Yes, TFA bench is closer to ANH style

Thanks for the offer, but I have plenty of pictures, with the bench being nearly finished, more reference would probably just bother me as I would start to notice more things that I've done wrong, haha :lol

Yes the ESB bench is hardly the same. However, the tunnel side is angled in both films.

This was one of the (many) accuracy compromises I made early on in the build, and there is no going back now unfortunately... It's kind of you to point this out. :rolleyes

YES! That is beautiful! But you're torturing us! We need lots of pics. Close ups, different angles, etc. :)

Re: 1:1 Millenium Falcon Bench Build

I cant recall the commercial but the guy that says "BRILLIANT!" is me after seeing this. is this just for your home or will it be transportable to cons?

Re: 1:1 Millenium Falcon Bench Build

Alright, here's the finished product! I should definitely mention I could not have finished this bench without the monetary donations from the members of Garrison Titan and a good friend Micheal here in town who has spent nearly every weekend in my garage assisting with the project, usually being assigned with the not so glamorous stuff. He has poured so much money and time into this along side me, and I can't be more gracious.

Combine this with the "functional" table I created last year or the Augmented Reality application my friend/developer Adrien and I are working on, and it becomes something magical:

Thanks for following along!

Hold on, didn't you start this build about 5 mins ago.... and now it's all ready for a cozy game of chess? FAR OUT MAN!!!

Looks great, how's it for sitting on?

Holy Freakin Bantha Crap! Outstanding!

w1EaLZR.jpg

This is seriously one of the things I was planning to build this summer for my Home Theater area. Now I have an excellent place to start! (I only hope I can get it looking half as good!)

P.S. I HAVE to know more about that augmented reality chess game! That was beyond cool! :)

The lower cushions are surprisingly comfy (we used a foam mattress as the base) - But I'm not sure I'd want to replace my actual couch with the thing.

This project has been loads of fun, I am working with a couple animators and a very talented developer. Here is a video of me blabbing about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU0bnsSMXrk

The bench unfortunately will not be staying here, it will be stored by a fellow 501st member and used for charity events.

My wife and I recreated this photo today :D

Hahaha... That is great! I may throw some questions your way down the road when I'm finally ready to get started on my own! ;-)

Fantastic move that baby into the house!!!! Or is it in the house, I sure hope so!!!!
Looks killer!!!

Re: 1:1 Millenium Falcon Bench Build

Would you happen to have made an over run of the cushion greeblies? If so or not would there be a possibility of me getting 4 of them?
