Fine molds Falcon Death Star hanger WIP

Kelly, that is such a sweet diorama........makes me truly look forward to your other ones. I would love to have a diorama like that. Truly impressive!!!

Dave :)

Here are a few updated pics. The back wall is made and painted. The hallway across from the falcons boarding ramp (where Luke, Leia, Han & Chewy all meet up before escaping) has been built also.

Anyone know where I would find the equivalent of a fire escape / catwalk in 1:72 scale(ish)?

This thing just gets more and more amazing!

You can get 1/72 catwalk stuff from plastruct. Just download the catalog, find the part, and your local hobbyshop can order it for you (unless you don't have one, then Plastruct is pretty good with getting you the parts directly, though they prefer to go through the shops).

Here are some update pics of the Dio.
Tricloudwalker: Thanks for the tip on the Plastruct, I found some fire escapes that were perfect.

Here are the pics:

Hallway across from falcons ramp (I noticed how inaccurate the Fine Molds Falcons Boarding ramp was so I re worked it).

Catwalks were added to enhance detail, they are not part of the original set or miniature but I like them anyway:

WOW... I am inspired! The catwalks add so much more to it. I too reworked the hydraulic detailing (surprsied FM got that one wrong..?) Also, that's a real neat touch using the surplus engine detail for a container/power pack/ tool box thingamjig! :thumbsup

Wow! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Awesome, dude. Seriously awesome!

Mount a piece of two way mirror across the elevator shaft, and put the dio on a stand that has a few inches of shaft built down into it with a one way mirror on the bottom, and you'll have a bottomless shaft.

Thanks for the comments!

That is my plan, LOL. I have a 12ft long 1"x6" pine board I will use as the frame for the floor. It will be deep enough so the elevator will look right and I will skin the outside with detail. I like the mirror idea, That I had not thought of.

I would like ,in the end, for this to be 4 ft tall and have a tie fighter bay and tons of interior deathstar (both construction and hallways, etc). We shall see if i keep on adding to it this might get there one day.

Kelly,
Rockford isn't that big...Make sure the City Fathers don't find out you're building a Death Star under their noses. :)

Great work, my friend. So. When's the kit coming out??? (somebody had to ask!)

I love the smooth and dull shine of the floor.
Reflections are just like on the original stage floor...
Very nice project!

Amazing work - I especially like the contrast of the textures. I hope you've kept those figures you get with the kit, they should give it a greater sense of scale also. Well done!

I am using the FM figures from the falcon, they just are not in the shot (well, luke on the floor). I dont know about the FM troopers, they will not look right if they are next to a Micro Machines Trooper (I have more of them than FM).

Hello kids! It has been a while since i have gotten any work done on the Hanger bay dio. Here are a few updated images. One of the hallway corners will be the "control room" where the droids hide. Still a lot to do on this but I am making progress slowly.

Enjoy!

I think your display looks awesome. You have a great eye for detail and your building skills are impressive.

My only suggestion is the star field out the hanger door. I think a plain star field would look better then the one with pieces of Alderann floating around.

The lack of movement to the pieces ruins the illusion for me, plus a plain view of space is more accurate to the movie.
