Final Words on the Foam Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside

Re: Screw Rylo and his Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside

So I spent some time last night building up my AWESOME foam cryocan. It's every bit as accurate as the original prop, or that guy who makes them now..what's his face, Ry-- something. Check that out 2 cents worth of foam and a random metal piece and I've got myself an accurate cryocan.

Now, I know what you're thinking, I've got the wrong color gasket on the bottom making it look completely inaccurate. I guess I'll have to ask around to see if I can find one. As soon as I find one I bet Ry will feel threatened that I'm going to steal all of his clients. Be afraid! Be very afraid! muah-ha-ha-ha :ninja

Once this is painted silver, it's going to be indistinguishable from the original. The foam I used is a bit porous though. I know most people seal their foam, and then bondo it to fill all those holes. I'll probably just buy a big can of silver paint and dip the whole thing in. That way the paint will really goop up inside all the holes and fill them up automatically. Bet you builders never thought of that trick! :cool

And LOOK - vials even fit inside my cryocan! I haven't figured out how to make it "pop" open and make a metal "clink" sound. I thinking that I'll have to add a spring somewhere and then glue two quarters to certain pieces. When the spring activates the two coins will clink together and that's 90% of the battle right there. If it sounds like metal, and is silver painted everyone will think it's metal.

Honest opinions and comments are welcome. Don't be afraid, I want this to be just right before I offer these up in the JY. I figure being foam, I could ask half of what others have been asking for their metal ones.

The only thing you're going to clone from that can is Barney!

Re: Screw Rylo and his Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside

Well, you've sort of answered my question already and I see that there's very little seriousness in this thread, but I'll go ahead and throw this out there. A few times I've noticed when something was getting scarce and was able to get some before it was all gone, in order to sell it later. (Worked very well with Xenadrine before ephedra was banned; not so well with Twinkies.) I'm just wondering how much demand for these cans there could possibly be. With idols and headpieces I can understand the lasting popularity, but cryocans? Realistically, how many do you think you will sell between now and...extinction? (I'm not being critical or negative; I hope you sell a skillion of them.) I know people are joking about buying up all the cans they can find, but to what end? (Sure, you have a lifetime supply of shaving cream, but what if you, like me, prefer Edge Gel?)

Very little seriousness? awww... but I worked so hard on my masterpiece. haha.
Again, as I mentioned before, I don't think anyone is collecting tons of these. The only people the actual shaving cream cans are worth anything are the people who are making these Jurassic Park cryocans. Do not confuse buying the barbasol shaving cream with buying a cryocan. They are two separate things and must be analyzed differently.

1) barbasol shaving cream cans value is determined by demand, as supply is not limited. If there is no demand then it's worth nothing. The only person you could potentially sell just the shaving cream can to is someone making the cryocan, or as rylo pointed out, an interior decorator. Chance of this happening is next to nil as both really don't need any.

2) Cryocans, For us collectors, however, the news of there being a change means that rather than an possibly unlimited supply of accurate cryocans becoming available. It has now changed to a limited run .

As a collector, you can use your own judgment on what that means. None of us can predict the future.

There are several "limited runs", from, for example, sideshow collectibles, some triple in value, some stay the same price. Most that are in open runs, stay the same price longer than those in limited runs.

There's a new movie coming out, imagine what will happen to the demand of these props if a cryocan makes an appearance.

Comparing cryocans to idols and headpieces is impossible. There are a lot of Jurassic Park fans, it has a huge following and there weren't too many props that you could potentially replicate.

The moral of the story is if you are a fan, and you want an accurate cryocan you should, in my opinion, probably pick one up now. (or else, you'll be stuck getting inaccurate cryos like mine :lol )

I do have the model of the can from the game... Here is the label from the can. Be sure to read the right hand side It is hilarious. canlabel.jpg

Re: Screw Rylo and his Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside

" Replica movie props are the best when they are Cast from the Original" all I see that changed was the label added after the manufacture of the can, so how is it this effects casting the can? you would have had to recreate the label to add to casted versions anyways.

sorry dude I am a newb and it`s all learning to me lol

Re: Screw Rylo and his Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside

Well for one thing the can is not "casted"

Here is the low down. Replica props are best when they are EXACT replicas of the original prop. It's a lesson that I feel needs to be reinforced nowadays. Hence, my satirical posting of the foam cryocan. Those "in the know" had no qualms about chiming in and laughing at me.

So with the cryocan - the original did not have a sticker, therefore, adding a sticker will make it one step further from being an "accurate replica."

Your thought about casting is correct only if you're dealing with props that can be cast, and then made in the exact same material as the original, thereafter producing an exact duplicate. However, a barbasol shaving cream can can not be cast, and duplicated in the same materials, even adding a sticker will not make it exact. These are the standards that we have to reinforce and hold here on the RPF.

I agree, generally. :) Sometimes, you gotta' do the best ya' can with what ya' got. So, you get as close to EXACT as possible. Such as the foam cryocan in this thread. :D

Re: Screw Rylo and his Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside

But, I want to see your progress on the foam cryocan! Enough chit-chat, get to building, man!!! :lol

Them fighting words right there! Just don't go crying to momma when I beat you at your own game.
You see the pic below? I know your secrets. That's right, you better look worried.

I'm going to eat what you eat now, and I'll automatically be as good as you.

After eating I'm going to cut open this barbasol can to fit on my amazing foam cryocan. Sure, I'm using a kitchen knife. Who needs power tools when you've got a steady hand like mine. Plus, I've improved on your technique. I didn't even take out the shaving cream. I figure once I puncture this thing all of it will just come out on its own. There's no need to "relieve the pressure or anything"... that's just a waste of time.

here goes......

Re: Screw Rylo and his Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside

And that's why I ask stupid questions to get more knowledge, after all I may have joined almost a year ago but I creep on the page from time to time.

More knowledge leads to less huh moments later. heck I`m more in the know about most of the recasters than I was a year ago.

Oddly the proper can, I have been using Barbisol since I learned to shave never bought one in Canada with the blue top always was a white top =/

not that they didn't send any here just I never got one lol

Re: Screw Rylo and his Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside

who needs Rylo?...there's a new sheriff in town!

Thomas, hurry up and get your foam cryo-can finished so I can recast it and undercut you on eBay

Re: Screw Rylo and his Cryocan! Important Jurassic Park info inside
