I had an idea to finish a helmet like it had come from the sarlacs belly, after having been digested over a few years, turned out ok

Looks cool; it mimics a rusted metal helmet really well.

Would have been neat to see little hints of the original colors showing on the surface bubbling up from the rust as well.

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

i did try that at first, but i couldn't really get the effect i was after, the patina effect is not paint, its a chemical you sponge onto the still wet paint to get the affect, bit hit or miss really as the affect is not instant, you have to wait a half hour or so

As for killing the sarlac, maybe it had a touch of acid reflux after a few years eating all that stuff and some trphy hunter spotted it, lol

Man, that looks like it was pulled out of an old shipwreck or something--nice job!

I'd really love to learn more about this weathering process. I think you did an amazing job.

I like how it has the holes in it where its been eaten through. Very Cool!

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

Thanks
It was a paintstrip gone wrong that gave me the idea for this, i bought the helmet off ebay, fibreglass and painted pretty badly, so thought i'd strip it, i'd heard oven cleaner would strip paint from resin, so i bought some sprayed it on, then bagged it overnight.
On checking it the next morning i found the cleaner had eaten through the fibreglass gelcoat in various places, so i cleaned it off and got the idea for the ancient helmet.
I added lots of damage and the holes with my dremmel, then covered the whole helmet with flexstone paint to give it some texture, painted over that then went over with the chemtek chemical paints, you paint the metal colour on, then sponge on the other chemical which causes the reaction.
I've had these paints for years now, haven't been able to find them again

Hehe, behold... the Funeral Pyre Fett where Fett rushed in last minute to take the place of Vader.

Vader lives....

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

Reminds me of Gladiator. I'd love to see a reimagining of Bobba Fett as a gladitorial combatant.

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

Nice! I like it. It really does look naturally weathered and pitted. Great job.

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

Nice job! You did an outstanding job on the weathering, it really looks like it was pulled out of the Sarlaac's gut or something.

I do have one minor criticism/quibble though and that's the uniformity of the color of the helmet. I would have done the ears and/or the RF stalk in a slightly different color to imply that it was made from a different metal. Not that there's anything to even remotely suggest that it might be made from different metals but I just think it would make the helmet a little more interesting than just one color.

One other thing, to really help sell the acid etched look I would have done more damage to the ears since they would (probably) be thinner metal than the rest of the helmet and would have been affected by the acid more.

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

i do have some other colours i can use, i did use darker metalics here and there on it, and green, blue and magenta patina effects, so there is some diffrences in colour, its hard to photograph that

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

It looks brilliant a really original idea.

Not being critical at all but if it is eaten metal possibly it would look better if you weathered the inside as well.

Top job :thumbsup

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

Thats the next job, lol it does look odd, pristine black inside, i've used the same texture paint inside as well, thats for tomorrow now

Re: Fett helmet, a bit different than the norm

Very nice helmet, I love it ! Worn and torn metal, it looks like it was found on a deserted part of the universe or something by space archeologists :confused. It sure seems like it holds lots of historical events from the Mandalorian era.

You know... a little scotch brite wil fix that right up!
