Female Captain America

Thanks for the encouragement all, ended up putting the hair clips up on etsy and sold one pair already so, pretty cool :lol
I was digging around a bit for my leggings and found the dark blue ones I was looking for along with a pair of red ones I forgot I had. Both are pretty opaque so I'll probably see what both of them look like with the rest of it-still thinking blue will end up working best but, hey, options are fun.

Also got all of my Steve Rogers dog tags in for my junkyard run, definitely keeping a set for myself but it turns out I'll probably be doing a second run so I may end up ordering a 'Stephanie' Rogers set too, not sure yet.

that captain america suit looks awesome, would be better if she was blonde tho

Depends, if they were going for comics, then yeah she would have been blonde, but in the MCU they say Steve has light brown hair.

Not a whole lot of actual progress but I did end up on an impromptu trip to Philly this weekend and I was able to visit fabric row and get some awesome fabrics.

I got the main blue fabric which is a 15% lycra blend, almost like a thick jersey but with a little bit of texture. It's a little bit lighter than the leggings I have though so I'm either going to try and find another pair or if that prove too difficult, just make a pair of my own. I got enough fabric to be able to just in case.
I also was able to grab some great leather scraps to make the pouches. I have everything for the belts and straps on order but the company I ordered from didn't sell scraps, only full sides or backs and since I didn't need nearly that much I decided not to spend the $80+ on it. These are a little bit lighter than I'm going for but I have some leather dye coming with the belt supplies so that should take care of the color issue.
And the last one is actually an upholstery fabric I found dirt cheap that I'm going to use to make the boot covers/shin guards. Right now I'm going back and forth whether I want to just make them with some quilt batting between two layers to get that lined effect or if I want to actually add boning, I may just end up trying both ways before I decide but it was crazy cheap so I grabbed enough to try both and decide later. It looks a little more on the yellow side in that picture than it actually is, I think thanks to the crap hotel room lighting, so I may try and get a better photo later.

I also got a wig but after trying it on I thought it looked a little too short so I may try and go back and exchange it later. Thankfully it'll work with some other costumes I've got going if they won't take it back. There were a few others I was looking at but the store was about to close so they wouldn't let me try them on; so may try to go back earlier tomorrow and find a better one.

I love this idea of designing your own costume!! I'll be watching this with great interest. (looks like we're neighbors too! I'm about 20 minutes from Philly)

Sadly just visiting! I'm usually about 3 hours away, though I wish I was closer.

Got my red and white fabric for the stripes today and I've been told by the house/pet sitter that my leather supplies are waiting for me so that only leaves the fabric ink for the star design, the padding and/or boning and white undershirt, some kind of replica pistol and a few other little things to get. Hopefully that means there will be some progress on this within the week!

I am excited about following this costume build! Cap suits and shields are a favorite of mine. I am not sure if you have already comitted to a certain style or build but seeing as you wanted something more grounded / tactical how about this? Its Jill Valentine but it can easily be converted to Captain America with the right color scheme and adding the stars/stripes for an iconic look.

Considering there are people on here from Europe and New Zealand, I stand by considering us neighbors. haha!

Very true! Finding people at least on the east coast is always exciting :lol

The one I decided on is actually pretty similar, I'll have the guns at my thighs, the tactical belt and the shoulder straps, though mine will be used more to support a shield mount on my back than holsters. Mine will have an added skirt kind of thing though, over opaque leggings and I'm still deciding on a neck line but because of the star design on the chest it will probably have to have a higher neck.

I am very interested in seeing how this comes together. I too am trying to make a female cap (a mixture of Avengers movie and Uncanny) and have been scouring the earth for ways to do it in a way that wasn't to "suggestive" of certain "attributes" without diminishing the fact that I'm a girl. So thank you for being the role model to my cause :)

Also curious as to the leg holsters that you're going to use. Will you make them or buy them?

I'm glad to help! That was exactly the sort of thing I was going for so hopefully it'll work out and maybe help you with your ideas as well.

As far as the holsters, I'm making them. I got some belt blanks from a leather company so I'm in the process of dying and cutting them and I'm going to strap them on to the belt.

Not a big update, I have most of the skirt done and I think I found a better pair of leggings but I want to finish before I post pics of that. In the mean time I did a very quick wig test. There's still some styling that I'll have to do and I'll need to hide the dark hair along my temples a little better next time but I think it looks pretty awesome. It's a dirty bonde color that fades to a lighter blonde toward the end and cut in to layers. It's got a deep lace front so I decided to change the part and give it that side-swept look that movie Steve usually has. Obviously I'd have to add a little pomade or something to keep all the baby hairs down but I don't want to add any product until I'm actually wearing it with the costume so I can wash it as little as possible. Not sure yet if I'm going to tie it up or leave it down yet, it'll most likely depend on how well I can hide my hair in the back.

Also got my gloves in, I really like them and they fit pretty well so I'm excited to have them, one thing off the list. Now all I have to do is wear them around to break them in and give them a little bit of a worn look.

And sorry for the crap photos, I just used my phone and took them real quick this morning.

If you hadn't said that was a wig, I would have thought it was your own hair! It's a really nice wig. :) I think for practical reasons, it would be best to have it pulled back (so it wouldn't block your view while you're fighting), but that would lose the nice shape of it. I know you were making the wing hair clips - as long as you've got the "bangs" pulled back out of your eyes it will hopefully look practical but still feminine.

Yeah nice find on that wig. Blonde wigs always seem really synthetic to me and this looks very natural!

Those gloves are awesome! Where did you get them?

It definitely took a little work to find the wig, it took a lot of looking around just to find one that was blonde and longer than a Monroe wig but I really like this one, it's got a deep lace in the front so it looks pretty good on and I really like the way it gets a little lighter toward the bottom. It seems like a lot of blonde hair does this and I think it makes it look great. Plus, it was under $50 and is heat resilient so if I decide to restyle it I can, so that was nice. And yeah, I'll definitely have it clipped back away from my face either way, I just have to wait until I can get someone to help me with the back and see if I can hide all my hair to decide if I'm going to leave the rest down or tie it up.

The gloves I got on ebay here. I got the small and they're still a little roomy but close enough that I can wear them comfortably and not have too much trouble moving my fingers or holding things.
