Fathom Events

Not a Fathom event but I saw that Regal is showing all the Harry Potter movies over the course of the next 7 days with multiple showtimes each day. Not sure why they're showing them all at once. It'd be better to release them gradually than forcing people to marathon watch them all at once.

Just added:

Been hoping for this one...

Some more monster action...

For Godzilla day...

Too many close ups, and from weird angles.

I hope that is what the director wanted, but it was distracting.

Most of the aliens were real jerks. Thank goodness Ultraman was on our side!

It was polished in some areas and very unpolished in others. A nice, cg, shiny Ultraman for fights, the 2D guy, very neat! But then they used that looking down shot of him (EDIT Ultraman, that is) flying up over and over, it looked like a paper cut out.

I remember hearing long ago that when the US tested the first atomic bomb above ground, that the physicist who was supposed to make sure it wouldn't ignite the atmosphere screwed up his math. A trillion degree bomb would probably do the trick.

Yeah I'm not sure if they were purposely making it look unpolished to give the vibe of the show. I wish they would've cut back on the cgi though. Overall I loved the movie. The characters are all so well played. The Japanese tend to do characters so well that you don't care that the production value isn't as high as an American film. That should be a lesson to every big budget director out there...but of course it won't be. It's always about MOAR!!!

My interpretation on the close ups and weird angles is it helps to make what would otherwise be mundane scenes a little more interesting. However yes, it can easily cross over into distracting. I didn't mind it though.

It's interesting, I enjoyed this far more than most of the big budget films I've seen in the past few years including the MCU.

Like the overhead shot that they zoomed in on Ultraman, that is straight out of the show, for when Ultraman grows.

Theys straddled the fence, part-ways new, more polished effects, and partway old school.
I'd watch it again.

I am sure anyone who seriously takes on a tv-to-movie project wrestles with "don't change it" vs "now you can make it how it *should* be."

I've not seen Shin Ultraman but from what I hear, it's supposed to be camp; a pastiche of the entirety of the series. I can get behind that. As much as I loved Shin Gojira, I do miss the camp of the old Showa-era movies (despite how dreadful some of those entries are). I know there's a streak of sincerity in the original outings but much of these properties were made to be fun first and foremost. It's so easy to make these things dreary and bleak for bleakness sake now.

It's never gonna happen but I'd love to see a Kamen Rider like the old series that was filmed with little more than a pack of smokes and some enthusiasm. I just love the rawness, the filth, and grit the first series had.

Well Shin Kamen Rider is coming up in March....
Nice, thanks for the heads up! It looks like they haven't listed it yet.

I also saw that Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S is going to be shown in March but it's not listed either.
