Farscape Props

Progress on the DRD. I'm torn with how much I want to accurize the thing, it's pretty horrible. Aside from the gripping claw and eye stalks the kit comes with I decided to add the rotating light on top and the articulated gun arm attachment on the right side so I've been cutting and grinding through the thick chopped fiberglass job.

Very nice work on the DRD.

I have the same kit. I bout it like 4 or 5 years ago, got to work on it, and then like everything else, set it aside and never got back to it, ot finish it. :(

I rebuilt the whole on the top left side. Drilled out the wholes for the eye stocks. (yeah, I know most of them were sold with those wholes alread drilled out, but Mine didn't. :() I also had to drill out the whole were the pincher arm goes. I also rebuilt the very inaccurate tear drop shaped panel on the left side. (the one you cut out.)

I want to build a door for that area on the rear right side, that is supposed to have a door over it.

I was pretty happy with my tear drop shaped pannel but after seeing yorus, I'm kind of wanting to cut mine out too.

I was going to leave the part were the rotating lights go alone, but after seeing yours, I really want to what you did. What did yo use to cut the disk out, and what is that thing you put under it. (It looks really cool)

On the very top of my list though, is to find an easy way to build up the area around the bottom. On the real DRDs, there are grooves a couple inches up the side, that go around the DRD, and go over the "Wings" on the sides. But on this verion, they just indinted the hole area between the groves. (I didn't say that very well, but hopefully someone understood that. LOL) Anyways, in my book, that is the most glaring problem with this kit, and I just wont be happy with my kit, until I find a way to fix it.

Other then the things I have listed here, I can live with the rest. Moya is a big ship, and if she makes here DRDs, it just stands to reason, that some may different from others. This one's difference in size and shape, just makes it unique. Though I know most fans, think this kit is only suited for a job at the bottom of the guano pit at the bottom of Pilots din. :lol

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do on this build. It may even give me the boost I need to get mine done.

Dueling builds! :love

The light on top is a $3 solar garden light from Target. I wasn't going to bother but when I saw the cheap lens that's pretty much a perfect fit I had to go for it. I cut out the circle by using a 1/16" drill bit in horribly dangerous ways on a dremel to drill and nibble out the circumfrence.

The bottom edge of the kit is really what bugs me most about it. Pretty much all the areas that should be indented are raised and vice-versa. I wasn't going to bother trying to modify it, at some point it'd be easier to just make my own from scratch. I'm trying to get this thing done in a reasonable amount of time and move on. I do want to make the little door cover for the upper right side as well. May have to break out my mini vacctable for that.

That is a great idea. I will have to make a trip to Target. :)

If you do Vacc it, and that goes well for you, and if your willing, I may be interested in buy one off of you. I picked up some small hinges in the would working section of Michel's craft store. I think if I trim them down, I can get them to fight in that top, rear, right, opening, and that way the door might be able to open, and close. :)

I'm also thinking of cutting down on of those same hinges, to make the pincher work, but I might just skip the pincher all together, and make the injector. I don't know yet.

I love the plain old, dirty yellow DRDs, so that is probably the rout I'll go. And I don't have the time, money, or room, for two, but I do love 1812. I'll probably stick the yellow though.

I used to alternate my fandoms. One month on this show, or movies, Props, and then the next month, another one, etc. etc. etc. and circle back around, but I have been hard core into Firefly for the last 2 years, and then took a brake from that this last month ,to work on some Trek, and other stuff. but I haven't touched and of my Farscape projects in a very, very, long time. (well more then 2 years now) Maybe this would be a good time to get them out and......well..... I want to say finish them, but knowing me, I'll just put a lot more work into all of them, and then put them away unfinished for another very long time. :lol

Progress on the DRD, I've been reshaping the eyes to be a bit more accurate and scratchbuilt the greeblie with the LEDs that goes in the side section:

I can't believe those grenades are dkny bottles! I never even picked up on that... My ex-husband used to use that cologne. I just left him a message to see if he kept the bottles. That would be frellin amazing!

Hey CB2001,
A little off-topic, but I just saw this on the back of a box of Oreo's and it reminded me of you :)

Do not trust Arsenal Models. They're recasters who take the work from other artists and make copies to sell without the original artists' permission. They've ripped off a few RPFers work more than a few times.

Thanks, Man. I had no idea. I'm glad i found out before i bought one... there is a lot for me to learn still about all this stuff. I absolutely want to buy from sellers with integrity!

Don't worry. I myself made a mistake in featuring them in my first MegaCon video I posted up on YouTube, completely unaware of what they've done until I finally ended up here at the RPF, where I was told about it. I didn't buy anything from them either, but I try not to acknowledge their existence if they're at conventions I go to since I pretty much swore my allegiance to the RPF and the artists here.
