Farnsworth Discussion

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Yeah when I read no one was making faceplates, I realized I'd have to do some leg work myself if I wanted some. Since I do have some skills, I figured I could come up with something.

I'd never starts a run and sell them in the junkyard, but I'm sure I could help others get them done.

If anyone has questions or needs help making them, just PM me, and I'll help if I can. I will be at dragoncon next week, so the earliest I could help anyone out would be after that, but in the mean time you could aquire the other parts you need, and there would still be plenty of time for Halloweeners if thats the idea.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Okay. I'm just about finished with my first Farnsworth. Just got in my correct lower right push button (thanks buddy) and my glass lens. My first plate is a bit dirty, but that's okay. This Farnsworth is battle ready! LOL

That came out great! Did you leave the entire bottom under that pushbutton? (I need to cut it off, or trim the plastic off if I want to fit our cellphone underneath.)

Its almost too shiny compared with some of the more weathered faceplates I've seen used in the show.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Thanks for the compliment! Yeah, i purposely angled it so it would show it was brass and not cardboard! LOL.

That turned out great.

Since the faceplate I ordered, and paid for (from another member) on the 19th of last month, never showed up, I will be talking to you after you get back from Dragoncon, about maybe working out a way to get one of these faceplates. (I know your not doing a run or anything. ;) )

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Very cool... Is the image actually part of it? I like it!

Yes. Earlier in this post someone posted this screenshot. I printed it out on a laser printer and just put it behind the lens. I was going to make my lens the light gray color, but having Myka and Pete in it is just so cool! It's a really funny expression on their faces. I love it.

It's a very nice touch, I like it much better then the gray that a lot of folks are use. Though I have to say, because of were the "glare" is on your lens in that pics, it makes it look a bit like Myka is foaming at the mouth. :lol

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I finally got around to painting my Wheatley case today. I used the flash to highlight the surface texture/weathering. In normal light it looks very dark brown with some barely visible weathering.

It's one thing that the QMx ones will never have. Every one of these fan made ones is unique even if it just the colour variation.

Still waiting for mine to arrive. It seems an eternity.

I'd think the QMX ones would be hand finished so each of those should be unique as well.

I managed to barely fit our droid x phone sin our farnsworths. unfortunately, the full screen video player is crap and has issues, so once the phone rings, you only see a static picture. I chose the Pete/Micha one.

The display on the droidx is a little too narrow, but I'll add a circular mask around the edge anyway to protect the phones from the edge of the glass screens.

I'm also doing a custom mix for the ringtone, with more bass and volume.

Eddie seemed pretty impressed with our Farnsworths, even though they were not quite finished and was nice enough to sign them both. Great guy!

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I like that Cassandra (Elvira) Peterson's table was right next door. LOL

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Oh, man. I was already down that I was missing this great con, again this year. Mostly because of the Joss room (Firefly, Buffy, Angel, etc.) and Stargate stuff, but now I find out that I missed W13 people, and ELVIRA TOO! :(

That is a very cool picture, you are very lucky to have got to go, and have your Farnsworth signed.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

We never get these cons where I live so think yourselves lucky. We've had Starfests and a couple of others but never ComicCons or similar.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Some people travel from across the country for Dragoncon, or even from Europe. It really is that massive.

If you like costuming, propping, and seeing panels with stars, you really should make the effort to do a dragocon.

Happily, Elvira also still looks god as well, BTW! ;)

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

Sadly I can't afford to be flying from Australia to the USofA for that sort of thing and travelling is difficult for me anyway but it would be fun.

Yes "Elvira" looks great for her age.

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

They must have some cons over there of some kind. Check them out!

Re: Warehouse 13 Prop Research - The Farnsworth

I went to DragonCon too... Awesome time. Eddie is a great guy. Met him at Shore Leave in MD in July where my 8 yr old became star struck. We brought a photo of her and him together for him to sign and he remembered her. Talked to her on the phone which made her year. :) Now, ready to continue work on my Farnsworth.
Thanks, Rande
