Farnsworth Discussion

I took a couple of screenshots that might be of interest to you guys?

The first one shows the rivet on the back pretty well, and the second is of the Farnsworth in Artie's office in the finale of the first season. Thought it was pretty interesting to see the amount of scratches and marks on the case! :D

Thanks for the screen shots. I just got my sound module in today, & my parts should be here Friday.

One question I have, but haven't seen anyone have a definite opinion on, is to prime or not. Seems to me that if I want a scratched SA version, then no. But if I want a durable finish, then I should. Opinions?

My opinion? Warehouse 13 is all about old, beat-up gear. Don't prime, and let it get worn. I love mine more and more as it gets more beat-up looking.

Good enough for me. Been looking at your build a few times a week to gear up for mine. You & NMR have been most of my inspiration.

Well, shucks! That's really nice to hear, especially for my first legitimate build. Thanks a lot! And good luck with yours. Make sure to post pics when it's done.

I'm sort of the opposite and like stuff to be shiny and new. Who's to say that the aren't some unused Farnsworth in a box in the warehouse? Maybe I'll make the second one a bit more used. Certainly the QMx one I have is reasonably new looking with a bit of ageing on the faceplate. My Tesla is definitely staying unused.

Someone needs to do a run of vacformed dome screens for the farnsworth soon. It's all I need to finish up mine and I don't want to use the almost-fit options that are currently available.

It probably won't happen anytime soon. The guy who did the original run will not make any more. The Ford radio glass is a really good screen. It looks excellent and fits well. The 80mm watch glass works well too.

The thing is that I DO have contact with a very good plexiglass place here. They made several domes for my Johann Kraus (Hellboy) helmet. I'm sure they could make a few but being in Sweden, the would cost a bit... both to ship and make. I could check into it though. Do we know exactly how "high" the dome is?

Not too sure about the height of the dome, but I just wanted to add - I'd go with no priming on the case. I didn't prime mine, and it makes it way easier to get the wear and tear looking right!

Hi Guys And Girls, Cant believe ive not seen this discussion before....I want a Farnsworth...lol.

Any way I'm in the UK, so sourcing the parts seems a bit harder here. Ive read most of the post and going by want people are saying you cant get the Gold Richard Wheatley tin anymore..:(.

So im after a few alternatives for the tin and I would also love a real brass face Plate so if anyone knows who making them, please do tell.
As for the buttons if any one on here brought in bulk id be happy to buy direct from you.

So if theres any one out there who could spare a few minutes to help me get started id be most grateful

Thanks in advance

Andy

Andy, the 9601GD Wheatley box is still listed on the website (Welcome to Richard Wheatley) for £18.33 but I can't get any product info pages to come up for anything. Might be a website issue. I have emailed them. I dealt with them by email when I bought a couple and got two with no inserts in them. Saved me having to try to remove them.

I did the same with the ABS boxes for the Claudia Farnsworth but made a booboo and forgot to ask for black ones and ended up with the default green. Nothing some paint or vinyl dye won't fix.

I found one place online that has some surplus stock of the Switchcraft 201 pushbuttons but they want $130 to ship them to you (I used a sample postcode in Cambridge as an example for shipping costs).

Hi Pete,
Thanks very much to the reply. Im going to email Richard Wheatley and ask them to send me out a tin with no inners. As for the Left Knob, does it have to be an official Fender knob as ive find this one online.Black MXR-style fluted knob 6.3mm shaft
If possible could you point me in the direction of anyone who still makes the brass Faceplates.

Thanks Again

Andy

Anyone know anything about "Orvis" by wheatley fly boxes. They appear to be made by the same company but seem to be cheaper and more readily available.

I just received this email from Clive Edwards regarding Wheatley. Probably why the website is broken.

"Your email has ben forwarded to me by Mark Woof, the managing director of the above. sadly the Company has gone into liquidation and he is unable to answer your query. If you are in the UK, Europe, New Zealand or Australia then I can assist you with details and supply boxes and all Richard Wheatley products.

If you are in he Americas or Asia then REC.com will be able to offer you similar assistance.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch for further assistance

Best wishes
Clive"
