Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan.

Jamie Bell is expected to play Ben Grimm/The Thing. Again, these casting deals are not final yet.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

This movie is gonna suck hard and I hope it does. I'm pissed, 1, because Stan's babies are getting raped by Fox, 2, I don't want a black Johnny Storm, I want a blonde haired blue eyed one like the last 50 years...you know, kinda like the SOURCE MATERIAL?! I don't want to see different races playing characters that they never were in the books. The next thing you'll see is a white black panther by Marvel...****.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

If this new switch race thing on characters is going to be the new trend with comicbook movies in the future, I'm done seeing them in theaters. Jamie Fox as Electro...Fine...But not this crap. 10:1 either Johnny is adopted or Sue is...BET

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

Doesn't it seem like the best comic book movies are the ones that stick closest to the source material? I am not a big comic book person, so I am not some fan outraged when their favorite character gets altered, I'm more of a movie guy. It just seems that if a character or story is good enough to endure for many decades, and have fans from multiple generations, you may want to reconsider tinkering with it. It lasted that long for a reason. Tread lightly.

Kate Mara on today's "Live with Kelly and Michael" show.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

It's not just Jordan's casting that has me concerned. From what I've seen of Teller, he's a terrible choice for Reed Richards.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

I have yet to see The Spectacular Now, but Miles Teller's performance along with Shailene Woodley was getting high praise last year. And I am guessing many complaining about the actors may not have also seen their prior performances.

The Fantastic Four Is Cast | Badass Digest
And as mentioned in the above article looks like they maybe even going the Ultimate Fantastic Four route.

Woodley was decent in it, hated Teller. Now it could've been the way his character was written - but based on that and the other thing's I've seen him in (21 & Over, Project X, Rabbit Hole... even parts of Footloose), he's just not a RR type.

Based on what we've seen so far, this is more Ultimate FF than anything... but, mostly it looks like Trank's bastardization of a classic.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

I read only about a year's run of the Ultimate FF. I wish the movie was more inspired by the Kirby years than the modern series.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

I think all the Marvel films have strayed considerably from the source material - some more than others. I think the "Marvel Movie Universe" is an amazing example of doing thing's right. While some are arguably better than others - for the most part, they've been very successful and well received.

Now the non-MMU films have been more hit or miss (to some). The FF movies are generally considered to be pretty bad, the X-Men films have been okay (I personally disliked them outside of X:M-First Class and The Wolverine), and The Spider-Man reboot... not sure what to say about that one outside of I didn't care for it and the new one looks like a mess. Now based on the very, very, very early stuff we've heard - and that's mostly based on casting, this new FF sounds terrible - like, they're straying too far from what we want/expect from an FF movie.

Josh Trank is unproven. It really seems like (based on what we've seen from Twitter and the like) that his ego, based on moderate success - has gotten the best of him. Rather than get the best actors that fit the roles, he's using actors he's already worked with and changing these well established characters to fit the actors.

I'm not sure I made it through as much as you did. I love the FF, it's the reason I read comics as a kid (and still read some now) - the source material is dense - Kirby, Byrne... all great stories.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

Ultimate FF didn't have a black Johnny Storm, neither did the last 50 years in the comics...Not cool with Teller or this dude playing Storm but the chick I'm cool with. Seems she doesn't understand the situation either, it's the bastardization of the source material that's the outrage, not him being black. When I say source material, I mean character source material.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

My cast choices are MUCH better!
Adam Brody as Reed
Claire Holt as Sue
Aaron Paul as Johnny
Jensen Ackles as Ben

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

So far I think they put more effort into the 1994 FF movie than this.

I personally don't care about mixing up races from the source material (Heimdall for example) as long as they're terrific actors for that role and it's not too much of a stretch (see my example further below of what's considered too much), but interracial siblings? That's pretty hard to wrap your head around as you're watching the movie and trying to enjoy yourself, at least for me it is. While I can suspend disbelief for superpowers and whatnot on display, whenever Sue and Johnny have scenes together I'm going to be thinking "WTF" the entire time.

Race aside, the casting is just terrible. Jordan seems to be the only decent talent here and he's nowhere near good enough to carry this film on his back. Don't get me started on Mara, I think she's completely talentless. I have no clue who the other 2 are but from what I've heard about them, I don't expect to be impressed.

Either Trank has no clue what he's doing, or the studio execs are pushing actors down his throat. Avi Arad was a guest speaker at one of my classes recently and all this FF news reminds me of his story about Fox sending Lucy Liu to meet with him for the role of Storm. Can you even imagine that?!? Here we are over a decade later with the same studio, no surprise here.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

Jamie Bell (also seen in King Kong, Jumper and upcoming Snowpiercer) is already familiar with performance capture through Tintin and will have a similar role for The Thing. Though not sure how he will pull off the voice.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

...of course, he could be Victor, too. I think everyone's assuming he's Ben.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

This is going to be a train wreck. It sounds like the studio is doing all the casting with anyone who will work cheap. I've never heard of any of these actors or the films they've been in.
