Fallout universe fan thread

I'm still clearing out all the areas around the main quest New Vegas. Sadly I found out that your companions can actually die and not just be knocked out. My robot exploded last night shockingly enough.

That was true in the old games, actually.

I remember getting Dogmeat almost entirely through Fallout 1, only to have him get fried by a security door on the last mission. :(

(I reloaded and saved him, though.)

I was just shocked because the entire game the robot would just get knocked out and now i can't finish his quest lol. Well next playthrough i'll figure it out.

Vincent just said that he would like me to do him a favor in the future. Here's hoping it doesn't involve a vial of modified FEV.

I don't think i got that far in the main quest. I did run into the aliens last night and was disappointed in it. You cant' even steal their ship lol. I would love to see a fan movie of fallout, it could be done really cheaply especially around here with all the abandoned mills and such. The one thing you never have that you would think in these games is ghosts, i mean all the horrible things going on in the vaults you'd think at least one of them would be haunted.

I found these guys up north in an empty area as I was heading towards the top of the map. I didn't realize what they were until i saw the UFO on the ridge above them. Google hasn't been very helpful lately on what is and isn't in the game, i can't even find a full list of the licensed songs in the game so i can build the soundtrack. I only got a partial list and i'm sure there are more. There are alot of Fallout 2 references in this game and I think I just found my first Dr Strangelove refference: you can hack the robot to let you into the strip and the password is the name of the decoding machine in the movie. It also appears in Back to the future as a label on the giant speaker at Doc's. Vincent's over the top cowboy act is also very much like that of Slim Picken's in most of his movied (Blazing Saddles, Dr strangelove, apple dumpling gang).

The songs I might be able to help you with. Another advantage of having the PC version is access to all the source files. I pulled all the music (not just Three-Dogs, but also the Encalve radio songs) from the radio to put on my iPod. I ended up buying the songs on iTunes as well (the ones I could find) because the game files aren't full versions.

lol. I don't want to spoil anything, but this exact moment from Fallout 2 plays a part where I'm at right now in New Vegas. I was like "Wait...that sounds familiar. No Way!" Yes way!

Very cool thanks. As for the vertibird crash I did chuckle a bit, it seems like they crash alot. Apparently the reason for the difference between the mr handy models in the first 2 games is that it is an earlier version of the product line and the ones you seen in F3 were the newest model Robco made.

If what you're referring to is in Novac, I found the same thing. Pretty cool.

BTW, is the Enclave dead now? It's apparently not on the West coast and only remnants left in the Capitol Wasteland.

I doubt the enclave is gone totally. Some version of them or something like them is bound to show up. There are a bunch of bunkers i can't access in this game so that should be fun. The Feds have real world facilities like Raven rock in fallout 3 (it's a real facility too) so i'm betting there are other groups like them or parts of them around.
The thing about fallout as there are plenty of groups around that want to pick up where they leave off and as long as any members of the Enclave live they can reform some sort of army. I'm a history buff when it comes to WW2 and the cold war so sometimes there are parts of this universe that just get my attention. Not to spoil things but when you visit lake meade in the game they actually put the b-29 that crashed there in 1948 into the game. i haven't gotten to see it yet though. Apparently this is right about the time when the Fallout Universe and our universe split off into parallel branches.

So someone got rid of the engineers at Xerox before they invented the Graphical User Interface.... I would not like to live in such a world.

One thing I thought was interesting is that it seems like they try to portray a cooperation between humans and robots (I.e. Humans shouldn't feel threatened by robots), but they actually deal with a situation where one company was firing humans to replace them with robots.

Yeah. It's nice to get a sense of closure on something that wasn't that big a deal, but I love those throw backs. New comers can take it as a character with an interesting history and fallout fans can see it as a follow up. I love it when big games like this don't go the 'reboot' route. A franchise with a rich history is always good.

Marcus: Long story, so I'll give you the short one.

Oh, COME ON! You gave my Jeyl a choice whether she wanted it short or the whole thing! At least he was kind enough not to canonize her as male unlike what they did to the vault dweller.

Has anyone heard if they are going to have DLC for this? I took the explorer perk, since it's my first run through, and there's a LOT of empty land out to the west.

It's not just empty, it's blocked. I spent a solid hour trying to find a way through. There's a wall of mountains, crested by invisible walls, and 3 passages, two of which are barricaded with cars and the other of which is locked with no key present in the game at the moment that I can find.

Maybe somebody with the PC version can... find a way to sneak through the gate? :love

I'm figuring that's where the DLC will come in. I've still found no way to get into the locked bunkers. The best way to kill a deathclaw is with a .50 anti material rifle. Still takes more than one hit for an adult claw to go down though. I'm kinda disappointed as a WW2 plane fan that they have the B29 that crashed in lake meade in the game yet its about useless and barely detailed. I'm pretty sure they didn't even really make it accurate to the real world version.
