Fallout 4

Nice nice - think I may already have an ideal pouch... Does that look like a 5mm audio jack socket in the middle of it? Handy for scale if it is...

I agree, it looks like a 1/4" phono jack. The ability to inspect each prop has been something I find myself spending a lot of time on.
The guys at Bethesda who made all of these props really did a great job. So far none of them have felt faked, or even cheated on their design (compared to the real-world).
I want to imagine that they have some store room full of old military junk at their office.

I would not go off that picture. Better would be to wait until you find it in the game so you can take reference pictures with something you can use to get a sense of scale. I see a lot of Nuka Cola bottle that are way too small. Better would be if the utilities to get the models and textures out of the game still work with Fallout 4. The Pepakura people will probably know more about that.

I bet they have a big old military supply depot near their office in Maryland where all the decommissioned government stuff ends up. I do like this stealth boy more. To be honest the thing about Fallout is there's so many versions of the same types of items from the first game to now because everyone was working on it at once. The fact that the raiders in 4 know about pipboys makes it seem like New Vegas was a bit out of touch.

I think it all depends -- on the vault, on the vault's location, on whether the surrounding community (if any) knew about it or not... Odds are if it was a "control" vault, people in the area would know about it. Even the milder test vaults (like 21) would be pretty public. Only the ones with military importance or extreme tests being run would be secreted away. Plus, the population-density thing would factor into it. Pre-war, the Western US was fairly sparsely populated. Post, I imagine places that require technological intervention to live (like air conditioning) would thin out even more. The Eastern Seaboard, though, has always been presented as being a bit more "with it" -- backwater swamps notwithstanding.

I just ran into my first issue: it crashed after 10 minutes for no reason. I agree about the population thing the Vegas area of fallout is a lot like it was in the 50s and 60s in the real world with not much other than farms. I got screen caps of the stealthboy i'll load up asap. i zoomed as close as i could. i'll try and get a pic of me using it for scale. One thing we're starting to see is that in the original games it was said that not many folks outside vault dwellers made it but it's now looking like more folks survived after the war for a while than thought just by all the military vehicles and radiation signs we see up in 3 and 4.

Edit: I've come across a Lethal Weapon reference already

Beavis and Butt-Head are in it, too. :rolleyes

I think the military survivors on the East Coast (now BoS) would have had enough protection against the radiation to maintain some sort of infrastructure after the attacks. Notice in the earlier games, the BoS locations are doing pretty well, their variable interactions with the locals notwithstanding. I mean, even if the DC Metro area was reduced to a tenth of its former population (unlikely), that'd still be thousands of people.

In the real world DC would be a massive crater along with most of the Maryland area near it, the soviets woulda pounded the place into a pulp. The fallout universe is lucky that Hbombs were mostly retired by all sides and it was old school nukes used. Ugh I have 3 suits of power armor now and 1/4 of a power cell for them lol. I'm using it to attack a super mutant base i think. I keep finding places to go back and explore.
I do like how the damage to some enemies is layered and the fall apart as you fight, i saw a glowing one lose both arms and still attack. I'm really hoping the art book has some vehicle art because i would love models of the airplanes in the game. Too bad they don't do a line of model kits for the vehicles and robots, then again they'd be prohibitively expensive like other stuff on the bethesda store.

Kind of off topic, but I hate the new UI update on XB1. The backwards compatibility is a let down too, probably just end up buying a refurb 360 to play my old games.

On topic: I'm really loving the homestead/base building, even if I'm not having the easiest time with it. The "snap" feature on the wall pieces is killing a lot of my ideas, and I wish I could make items clip through others for the sake of gapless structures.

I haven't unboxed my XB1 yet... what's wrong with the backward compatibility? Selection or actualy gameplay of games re-done for XB1?
I was definitely disappointed I wouldn't be able to play my 360 games on this new one, but I guess they didn't really support that much from XB to XB360 either.
I still have a 360 and I'll use it to play the old games. I don't want to re-buy the games i have, but if they allow for a free digital download of games you already own and they play well, that'll be one more step toward selling my 360.

It just came this week, but basically microsoft gets the okay from the publishers, and then if you own the 360 game disc you have to put it in the XB download it to your drive, and then keep the disk in the tray while you play for DRM reasons just like with physical XB1 games. That part is kind of moot, but it would be nice to be able to just put a game in and boot it without a 5-10 minute download time.

My real frustration with it is how limited the game list is so far, and that it seems to be that the publishers haven't really jumped on board to okay their games, so the games most want aren't there (but will be, says Microsoft) Overall I don't fel like it's an attractive enough feature to really sell consoles, and most gamers will be better off holding onto their 360s to play their old libraries.

My complaint is those of us with original xbox 1s have 500gb and that goes fast if want to play backwards.

That's me, I find myself having to make tactical decisions on what to keep or delete, even before BC I was hitting memory limits, and now it's just insane.

I'm noticing in this game that it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the amount of stuff to do, I've got like a massive list of places i need to go back and explore and missions on top of the story mission that i barely touched. i really hope they have a way to make power armor fuel cells cause right now i've used every one i've found.

Had my first glitch. At the quarry there were a lot of texture blocks that I could walk through and was hiding one of the valves. I also found my first mini-nuke and I do not like it at all.

Did by chance that nuke go off on ya? I hate that quarry, it's impossible to see and navigate to those valves.

While certainly tricky, I've been having some luck on my side in saving those fusion cells. I knew the moment I saw that core meter decrease that usage of the Power Armor was going to be limited. I've only used it whenever I needed to go through the condensed building portions of downtown Boston and when the Minutemen charged Fort Independence. I think I've got like 10 cores now through various stations, vendors and yes, even mail boxes.

When I start a new play through after this one, I will definitely be modding this it to kill the power requirement. A true set of Power Armor never runs out of juice!

I found it at a different location. Unless something happens when he finally gets it drained. I may have missed something there.
