Nice, wonder what the story line is for this one. Regardless, I'll probably get it when it goes on sale somewhere for a nice discount and when I have a new PC since I'm not sure my current, ancient PC could handle it, or at least do it any justice.

That's a day 1 purchase for me. I've played F3 and FNV several times each, but I need something fresh !
I'm not overly impressed by the graphics, but that's never been the main asset of the fallout games anyway. Hope it's a fall 2015 release and not 2016 though.

Holy crap that looks good, I love the flashback to the war starting. I always wished they'd kind of done that as a level where you get to live thru the time right before and after. The thing with the graphics is that it still has to have that fallout feel so i'm not sure hyper realistic would work.

All I am hoping for is 3 things. 1) Vehicles, I want to have my own retro-futuristic car, 2) CO-OP multiplayer. Would love to be online with a few friends wandering through the wasteland. 3) a big enough map where I can visit my post-apocalyptic house :)

If the trailer is to be believed, it seems as though your 'Player Character' will be able to talk, ala BioWare Player Characters like Commander Shepard.

I will be very, VERY disappointed if they throw out the character creator and said that this guy was it. Don't you go there Beth.

I like the way Saints Row 4 did it. You can build your character and select from one of the few voices. Worked well, maybe Beth will do something along those lines. That would be cool.

I think every Fallout fan would go for that one. It would be nice if they evolved the franchise a bit more to keep up with other gaming trends without going overboard. Small things always make the best difference.

Stephen Merchant would be a good voice actor to have in this game, as a general store owner or a shop of oddities

It looks like they're fully taking advantage of the PS4/xbox 1 abilities when it comes to graphics, npcs, and looks like open world spaces too. I know i'm probably odd but i love finding the old documents in the games telling about how things were before and after the war such as the Survivalist's notes in New Vegas and the records of the BOS founders. I always loved that about post apocalyptic books too. Between this and Mad Max for the ps4 it looks like I'll be visiting some shady places lol.
Oddly enough this is the one game my mom knows anything about and wanted to know when it was coming out so i could preorder it. Kinda hoping in october so i'll have money for the super edition.

Yeah, it's rumored that the character creator may not be in the game. I guess we'll see.

I swear there's a shot of what looks like Classic APA Armor. I'm hoping to see some more retro, that's for sure.

Even if there's no character creator, which i wasn't fond of in 3 or NV, maybe they'll at least go with the way they did characters in Fallout 1 & 2 where you can at least make some choices. I love the fact that there's a suit of armor hanging in a garage and nobody has touched it. Slightly off topic: Wasteland 2 from the creator of Fallout is coming to ps4 and xbox 1. Jeyl well bethesda said that Tactics was partially canon as that game was mentioned in the computer at the Pentagon in fallout 3 so I'm not surprised they included it. I'm wondering what else from the Interplay Fallout 3 game they're including, NV got a lot of stuff from ideas and characters from it.

That suit hanging in the garage looks like an updated version or variant of the T-45D power armour.

Yup, it is. I'd wager it's an updated version, but we'll see for sure soon enough. I hope they were able to sneak in the T-51b variant as well. Seems like the T-45d is the "main" power armor in the game, like F3.

One thing about Fallout: the power armors never look the same twice due to upgrades/mods/refits. Even the T-51s from the original games and the Bethesda games look different, which i guess could be explained as later models or something much like they explained why the east and west coast vault doors look different.

Silence!! The character creator was a crucial step in the immersive experience of fallout! While I understand having your typical caucasian dark hair male as a place holder is necessary for marketing purposes, Fallout has and always should be about who you want to inhabit this world.

You know which video game character this guy reminds me of?

Yeah, it's more a matter of updating the look. The "storyline" considers them (the different T51's) to be the same model. Frankly, I'm looking forward to building all the versions of the different Fallout props, even the games that are considered non-canon like Fallout Tactics. Can't wait to see more of that rather beefy looking T-45d armor from the new game.

Okay that funko figure is on my to get list. Jeyl I didn't like their character creator, if it'd been a bit more advanced like Mass Effects it'd been better. Honestly that's one of the things Bioware did best, just wish more companies would give you as many options to make a character. At least then i could make a character that looks like me. I hope they don't do the old trick of having the same character with mustaches and hats added and pretending they're someone new lol. Half the NPCs are the exact same model with just slight changes.

I'm thinking the glove might not always be needed. Vault-Tech seemed to like to give random gear to vaults so this vault might have gotten a bunch of prototypes or after 200 years have been repaired beyond recognition. Oddly enough for some reason in Fallout I always play a female character, same with mass effect. In fallout it's fun because you get special perks and dialogue at least.

Haven't watched the trailer (I assume it's cinematics and that doesn't interest me), but it'll be nice to have another Fallout game. I enjoyed 3 quite a bit, though I never finished all the quests (and am in a subsequent playthru). The character creator for Fallout 3 (which was the same for Oblivion, which was similar to all the TES character creators) was a bit underwhelming, but then they tend to be.

To me, this just highlights the reason to always play these games on PC: modding. Especially with Bethesda's games, modding allows all kinds of improvements in characters' looks and such, as well as otherwise extending the game. To me, that's the most exciting part about Bethesda's games: the game doesn't end with whatever they sell you. You can mod it out the wazoo.

The trailer looks like it was made using the in game engine and not the usual super slick hi-poly cinematics that you often see in trailers, the trailer looks a lot like how I think the final game will look. The dog they showed is a good indicator that it was probably an in game engine render since you can tell that they used a relatively simple texture on it where everything conforms to the body of the dog, there's no bits of fur coming off from the back of the legs or under the belly, that screams game in game level graphics to me.

It actually looks like it might be the opening sequence to the game since that's what they used for Fallout 3 with the bus radio coming on.

One thing that really stood out to me (and reassured me it was in-game engine) was the dog movement especially when he starts moving away from the crib. It really brought me back to the other games' kind of crappy NPC movement. That made me happy, though. The graphics are up to standard. If I needed to pick One thing that kind of makes me nervous is really simple, but I thought the colors through most of the trailer were really "fruity." Lots of bright colors contrasting to Fallout 3's green-brown base and New Vegas' more brown focus. Overall looks great though.

Oh and did anyone else see the laser rifle on the wall in the garage? Looks like they kept the design almost exactly the same. They seem to have changed just enough to make the game seem fresh, but stayed loyal to the other games. That makes me overjoyed. I was nervous they'd revamp everything. Score Bethesda.

The colors could be due to everything flashing back or it could just be the area the game takes place too. Too bad they can't work some of the cut content from Fallout 1 and 2 into the game.

I did notice the laser rifle you're talking about. Looks like it has a different stock on it. You can see what looks like the regular stock, detached, under the rifle.

Possible weapons mods like New Vegas?

It looks like the bobbleheads might be back too since there is one in the garage. Is it tacky of me to like the 40s/50s retro furniture and house designs in the game to the point i'd be willing to use them in a real house? I'm also trying to figure out how that Mr Handy fit into the cardboard box in the closet the dog goes past.

I need to visit the bethesda store lol. I'm guessing from the few landmarks in the video that we're up near Boston, oddly enough I recognize the building with the gold domed roof from The Last Of Us when you're escorting Ellie not to mention the ship and the statue the BOS airship goes over. Guess the rumors were right. I would love to see a fallout game take place overseas to see what it's like over there. It's mentioned the Moriarty and the rich old guy in Fallout 3 both came from the UK so travel is possible though it's said they came because things are better in the US wasteland than at home.

No release date yet? I wouldn't be too bummed about the character creator. I usually used the same look every time. I don't think they should get rid of it though. I like the look of this game because 3 and NV felt like humanity hadn't advanced as much as they would in 200 years. Obviously if this is the Commonwealth they supposedly had more advanced tech there. I mean that there are absolutely no vehicles, no newly constructed buildings, etc. Heck there were no carts until NV. Fallout 2 actually had a functioning car. I'd also like to see another vault that had a GECK like Vault City in Fallout 2.

    Hooooray, Fallout 4!

    There's a few things I noticed.

    Pip-boy

The pip-boy is simplified and appears to be updated to have a light globe for the light function, which is a nice addition. It also moved the settings dials to the right, which makes more sense from a usability view.

    View attachment 485252

    Vault Suit

The vault suit seems to be going back to its F1 and 2 style and has almost no visible seams. For Fallout costumers like myself, this is going to be tricky to replicate. It's also very snug, I hope everyone in the vault has been working out, this isn't a design that's suitable for all body types.

The F3 and FNV suits were designed with functionality in mind. I did some research (documented on my blog) on the concept art for F3/NV and found that they chose denim coveralls because it was very 50's, economical, suited all body types and made sense for life in a vault. The Vault 111 suit is more sci-fi and reminds me of comic books. This isn't a bad thing, I'm just a tiny bit disappointed that it's more difficult for people to cosplay a 111 vault dweller than it is to do Vault 101.

What I really like about the 101 suit is how simple or complicated you can make it. If you're more into props and armour, a blue coverall will do the trick, if you're like me and like to sew, a custom denim jumpsuit is also good.

    Nuka Cola

Nuka cola now has round labels and a different shaped bottle than the previous ones. I get the feeling that this was more about Cokes IP lawyers and less about improved design.

    View attachment 485256

    Power Armour

I'm really happy about this, the size of the shoulders on the old armour always bothered me. This looks more compact and protective. I can't wait to see more.
    View attachment 485257

    The Dog
Is the dog was in both pre and post war situations? If so, then the game isn't too long from when the bombs fell (unless there's some kind of cryogenics in the vault?) Dogs live to an average of about 15 years. It's not dogmeat as we know it, Fallout 3 dogmeat is alive in 2277 Fallout 1 dogmeat is alive in 2161. The bombs fall in 2077. Perhaps all dogs are dogmeat, like all horses in the Witcher are "roach" - perhaps they're all related :-\

I'm probably going to be obsessing over this for a while. But hooray, finally Fallout 4 - all of my friends told me it was never going to happen. I'm off to do the "I told you so dance" in their face!

The leaked casting documents refer to the PC as "player" in the script while other NPC's have unique names, which is usually a stand in for player created characters. The only "rumor" is idle speculation based on 5 seconds of him talking at the end of the trailer.

Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Saints Row have all had voiced custom characters.

I stopped reading once it was clear that most of the information is probably true, based on the trailer. I didn't want spoilers.

From what I remember he/she was cryogenically frozen, which will probably be elaborated upon at E3.

There is a scene in the vertibird, where you see a power armour from behind that sort of looks like the T-51b, especially the double shoulder bells. It may just be the updated T-45d though.

    Thanks :)

F3 and NV was definitely denim. Aside from looking like denim in the texture files, I found a quote from the lead artist, Adam Adamowicz in an old Bethblog developer diary from Fallout 3 and he says.

"Designing, or redesigning the (fallout 3) vault suit meant adhering to canon, and updating the textures and tactile feel for the detail we can achieve now in games. I opted for a more durable denim like material, something quintessentially American and, suited to carrying out vault tasks involving heavy machinery and crawling through metal pipes.”

(edit for source - The actual article is missing from the Bethesda site because of Fallout 4 overwriting all previous content, but you can read a mirror of the article on the IGN/conceptual design boards and fallout.gamepedia)

No, vault suits are made from leather, not demin. Not sure what about the game texture makes you think that, doesn't look like denim to me.

I wouldn't give credence to an unofficial wiki (which can be edited by anyone) vs. what the lead artist has explicitly said.
