Fallout 4 pipe gun build

Hi all, just finished a scratch build Fallout pipe gun. I actually made 2 of them, one of them is a present for my brother-in-law, I made the case to go with that one. The build was a pretty quick one, timber for the main body, then acrylic and conduit for the rest. The painting was a bit of a learning experience for me as I've never been a confident 'weatherer' but i think I'm reasonably happy with it. I did try the iron oxide powder with peroxide/vinegar method but for some reason i could not get it to work so i went with the old acrylic paint method with Rub'n'Buff silver for accents.

Very nice! I saw someone else say the pipe guns are overdone, but I really like the look. It's almost too simple not to do it. What type of wood did you use for it? That looks really close to the ingame wood.

I am not 100% sure what the timber is, just an offcut i had sitting around. If I had to guess, probably Spotted Gum which is an Australian hardwood. I did stain it a little to give it a more rustic look.

So yeah... that's probably hard to come by around here. :lol I was just planning to grab anything I have laying around, which would probably be accurate (to the universe).

That's a gorgeous looking Pipe pistol you've got there! Ready to arm some raiders or lone wanderers! Great job on it

I'd say any lightish colour timber would be fine, any the older and more weathered the better. Are you planning on building one soon?

Thanks, much appreciated

It looks great. You probably could have bent aluminum metal just about as easy as you did the acrylic.
The rust paint looks good, if you want a 3D rusty look you can mix together superglue and baking powder into a paste, then apply it using a toothpick

Great suggestions, only reason for using the acrylic is that I have heaps of it and it's easier to cut and shape but as you said it's harder to heat and bend. I never heard of the superglue and baking powder mix, sounds good. I did try the cinnamon trick but I couldn't get it to look right, probably a lot more trialling needed.

I'm going to attempt to use aluminum and make fake welds. It would be much much easier to do it this way though, so I don't fault you for that at all. Plus painted up it looks exactly like metal anyway!

Look forward to seeing it. I used hot glue to do the fake welds on the piece on the side of the gun where the piece of half conduit attaches to the rectangular piece. Even though the 2 pieces were superglue together I just filled the joint with hot glue and once painted it looks remarkably like weld

You might be waiting awhile to see it because I'm slow. :lol Years ago when I did a Gaffi stick I used GOOP glue and a small nozzle glue applicator and it looked pretty good. I'll have to try it with hot glue.
