Fallout 4 Kremv's Tooth

Hi, this is more or less my first replica attempt. I started a Hung Jury from Destiny awhile back but that's been on hold through the winter, and I managed to do the WIP on this in two days, so I'll definitely finish it lol

Anyways, like the title says, kremvs tooth from fallout 4. Just need the handle strap and nails, and then it'll be ready for paint.

Also a question for anyone who works with wood, my dremel bit got really hot while doing this, and the rubber bit got kinda melty and my sanding piece kept moving around and flying off lol really slowed down the process. Tips on this? Thanks

Sorry for crappy phone images :/

It looks great, the photos make it look like its cut from bone.

In regards to the dremel, take this from someone who as killed a dremel overheating it.
-Try to hold the dremel such that the vents are not covered. This is really hard to do with the older models.
-Periodically run the dremel on low speed to pull air through and cool itself. This is better than turning it off while hot.

(While typing this I realized you were asking about the bit)

-I am guessing you used the sanding bit? If it is getting hot, you should be using a coarse grain sand paper and a lighter touch. Only use the finer grains once your have removed the bulk of the material. Change the paper as needed.
-Try a different bit. The coarser carbide bits work okay on wood, but the best "Carving" bit is the one designed specifically for shaping wood.
-If you do melt the rubber, it will never work the same again. The screw is meant to compress the rubber and hold the sandpaper in place, but if the rubber melts the screw no longer works well.

That looks good!
Another Dremel tip is to get the flex shaft tool and either get their stand or have a way to hang the Dremel. It's so much easier to use and more precise.

Thanks for the tips guys!
I am using the flex shaft and have the main body of the dremel hanging, so the air intake should be fine I imagine. Might not be the answer to my specific question but still useful information so I appreciate it :)
As for the bit, I used a coarse grain bit ;they're the only grain that came with my kit for some reason) and yes the rubber has melted so I guess it's time to get a new rubber bit lol
So for future reference you guys are suggesting a lighter hand? That may have been my problem as due to the nature of the blade I was going pretty heavy handed to get the shape/detail.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hey! So I finished it today! I want to apologize in advance for the crappy pics, the only thing I've photographed and posted anywhere online has been miniatures, so I'm not quite sure how to tackle this.So on a side note if anyone has any advice for prop photography please let me know! Large light box? I have no idea lol

So here it is! I think it turned out pretty good for my first ever prop attempt! Again please excuse the crappy linoleum floor and bad lighting :(

Hey everyone! I know there wasn't much interest in this but that's ok, I'm still going to post more WIP lol

I wanted something Fallout themed to mount this on my wall (I plan to do this same thing for any other fallout props I make). I still need to add the nameplate in the bottom center, but other than that it's done.

I did the one on the left first, and you can kind of tell, because the second one looks better, but I think they still ended up pretty cohesive.
Again, I'm sorry for the crap pics :( best I can do right now.
what do you think?
Thanks

The mount looks pretty good.

Just as an FYI from someone with many years creating popular threads on forums: Your photo quality is often directly proportional to the responses. It always exciting to try and share things the second you finish it, but spending a bit of time to setup a background for the photo and plenty of lighting goes a long way.

Thanks, I do realize that the photo quality is probably the reason for the lack of replies, but as I stated I think in the first post, I'm used to photographing miniatures, so something this large is quite the change for me lol.
My main problem is lighting, I don't have good lighting anywhere in my house lol. Could you suggest anything? Do people use light boxes or anything, or is sunlight the best option? I would really like to be able to upload some quality images :/

Usually the more light the better. Ideally you have one powerful light coming from one direction (flood), and a second more focused light (Spot) that creates highlights or selective shadows. Even a crap camera will take a fairly good photo with enough light.

Sunlight works great as a flood light, although you often need to defuse it with a sheet of semi-transparent plastic. A dirt cheap frosted shower curtain works well for this. Any large diameter bright light will work, such as a fluorescent light with more than one tube in it.

For a spot light I like to use a cheap Ikea lamp, which has an articulating arm. It creates hard shadows if I want them, or I bounce it off of a sheet of white paper to create a softer secondary light. You can get away with a dirt cheap lighting rig by going to a hardware store and getting cheap fixtures and a few materials to act as diffusers or reflectors.

A solid colored background works wonders. If you're limited on space a sheet of curved poster board works well. In the case of your knife, it may have been better to take it outside and photograph it against a rock or smooth concrete.

Most of these tips can be learned by googling "How to take good product photos".

Very nice.

Also I'm not sure what's going on but I do a domain search every week for franchises I'm interested in on the RPF and limit the search to the past couple weeks - "fallout 4 site:therpf.com" for example and this wasn't showing up. Weird.

Well done!

And you didn't have to fight your way through a mining facility to get it ;)

I must find this Kremv's Tooth in game. It looks menacing. Nice job.

Yeah it's pretty sweet, I've been using it mostly rough my melee only run, but then I modded a legendary sledgehammer and I can't argue the damage. The tooth still sees some action though when I'm feeling savage lol
Thanks for the replies guys!

btw the display is finished and mounted on my wall with the nameplate and all, but I think the picture is "just ok" so I'm a little weary of posting it until I can hopefully get a better pic :/
