Fallout 3 and New Vegas Plasma Rifle Build WIP

Once again, I am a massive fan of the fallout series and so now I am building the Plasma Rifle! A ionized gas shooting energy weapon. I began by actually going into the game and sizing the weapon next to my character. I found out that if the player is 5'10, then the rifle is around 32". So I went into my favorite program Adobe Illustrator, and drew/traced a scale line drawing of the rifle. From here I was able to print it and buy the right sized materials. Im starting with the body; it will mostly consist of ABS and PVC.

So I bought some ABS piping that I thought would work as the body, it being about the right size and all. (I believe they were 1,1/2" and 2" in diameter)

I also bought some 1" PVC caps and pipe for the coils/holes on the side of the gun.

Then I cut the ABS to the correct size from my printouts.

Now for the holes...

Band sawing PVC sucks. I had to buy some more materials, but it worked out.

Important: I sanded almost every piece before putting anything together, as I have had trouble in the past with paint sticking to smooth surfaces like PVC or ABS. In the end the plasma rifle doesn't have to be smooth or glossy because it was in a post apocalyptic setting. Thats my favorite part about Fallout props is that they don't have to be perfect!

I bought these ABS test caps that fit perfectly so I cut holes in them for the shorter ABS tube.

I'd like to try building the AEP7 laser pistol, and have almost finished blueprints for it. Like you, I have looked at in-game shots for sizing. Since you seem to have an eye for this, what would you say is the length of the laser pistol? Thanks

I am sorry but I cannot give you dimensions for the laser pistol at the moment but it is real simple to find them on your own. you can either go into the game and take a screenshot of the pistol next to your character yourself and measure it from there (assume your character is somewhere around 5'5 to 6'). Or you can take an existing screenshot on google images and measure it the same way or measure it from the characters hand. This is because you already have exact proportions for the pistol from a regular image of the pistol. Good luck!

I went to my school to use their laser printer and cut out the basic shape of teh stock and the portion of the body below the ABS.

At this point I am going to finish the body and after work on the stock and handle.
