Factory Entertainment Tricorder

OK, I love this Tricorder… inaccuracies and all! It’s very solid and really heavy, and the finish is beautiful. The graphics are crisp and the sound FX are clear and loud. I’ve always wanted a Next Gen Tricorder and I’m glad I didn’t pass on this one.

I received #112 and it’s working correctly. It is exceptionally heavy and the finish is nice. The lower half lights up on mine and the three separate graphic modes work correctly I like that the hand scanner also has sound. I like that the top of the head of the Tricorder comes off for charging and more importantly a red light displays for charging and a green light for finished (nice touch) the blue color in the presentation case is an exact match for the cricket phasers and the Dustbuster phaser that I also have. I remember the bottom electronics being hit or miss on the EFX line for the Brent Spiner tricorder I also own. This was due the hinge pins alignment and wiring issues I believe. I am sure FE will sort this out.

I am also a fan of the COA artwork and the Instructions Artwork that came with the unit in a 2 LCARS brochure presentation. This also will show the upper head removal piece I was talking about. I am happy with this effort as well. I have seen so many other prop replica projects that won’t put in this high quality effort. Whoever is doing this for FE is a STTNG fan IMHO. GC

Interesting the side LEDs. Green on the left, red on the right. Like a vessels navigation lights. I wonder if there was any thinking behind that.

I noticed that the hand scanner does not secure in the top of the head unit magnetically in certain positions so it will fall out if not careful.
Mine doesn’t have this issue. The hand scanner is very secure no matter what position (rotation) I place it in. I’m sure you’re putting it in with the LED’s to the left.

EDIT:

Yup, I checked mine and if you insert the hand scanner with the LED’s on the right, it will fall out of its compartment. The instructions state which way to install the scanner.

I will look into that

I know there are some inaccuracies but I'm honestly really sad I missed out on this one. I don't even collect TNG stuff but ever since I was a kid, when watching this show with my dad, this was my favorite prop.

How’s the balance of the tricorder on the stand? Is it top heavy? Also, is it against forum rules to include a link to the stand you got?

It's a fun collectable but more of a high end toy IMO. Does not stay close to the original and does not look like they really studied it carefully. Comparison with a vacuformed Ed M (who made them for the show):

That's at least 1000 words worth right there. Wow.
