Facehugger 1/1. Cheap but accurate?????

Doing some future planning.

What is an accurate but reasonably priced Facehugger???

Looking at what's out there it's impossible to tell. There seam to be good looking inexpensive models but I have no idea about accuracy or quality.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This would need to be an Aliens prop

There's a vinyl one on ebay from Thailand, it looks like an exact copy of Halcyon model, which I have and it looks spot on.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post the link, but easy enough to find.

That is a recast of the old Halcyon kit and much smaller than the original. It's also made of hard white vinyl instead of the softer flesh colored vinyl of the original. I would love to see a new kit come out. We may just get a chance some day. Round 2 has picked up the license to all things ALIEN. This was announced a few months ago.

Vinyl shrinks approximately 5-10% compared to the size of the mold.

Resin recasts molded from other recasts also usually shrink incrementally, albeit with a less radical rate of reduction.

Also those Thai recasts have terrible detail. May work if your going to do a stasis tube prop and fill it with liquid.

The Halcyon's is the A2 version they also produced a A3 Queen version.

Didn't they also make an A2 1:1 chest burster and A3 1:1 Dog burster as well?

Thanks for that.

So all recasting shrinks or this really based on materials used?

But the old Halcyon kit is good??
The Halcyon kit is superb. From my recollection they were cast from originals. Tsukuda did the Japanese release of these kits. I believe they kit is still under license with another company, but cannot recollect the name of it.

You can find the original Halcyon kit on eBay or at TheClubhouse for around $75. Don't buy if they are listed at a higher price than that.

Halcyon kits pop up regularly over on Clubhouse.
I picked up the Face Hugger and Narcissus a few years ago.

I saw several kits for sale in the last month or so including the CB and A3 Dog.

Again comes back to how much money you want to throw at it.

It depends what you are using it for (and how rich you are)

Being rich has nothing to do with it, it's a matter of if you want to support recasters.

If money is a problem then you are in the wrong hobby.

In another thread it was discussed what a nightmare painting these things is. There is a pre-painted kit on Ebay by Skynet/Aoshima.

Looks nice and is already painted.

Anyone familiar with this one?

Thanks

Ah... that's the current company that has the license. It's the same as the Halcyon/Tsukuda kit. Didn't know they came pre-painted.

Ah! I just rescued a bunch of my old models from storage...including an original Halcyon 1:1 facehugger. This was purchased the day they showed up on the shelf at the Houston Hobby Shop back in the 90s. Definately cast from an original, insane detail and even fingerprints sculpted into the fingertips. Just amazing. Found my 1/4 JP Halcyon raptor too:) Both are tough to come by these days.

No they didn't. :(

GOD, I wish they had. They did make an A3 queen chestburster, thank goodness, also moulded from the real one.

But the old Halcyon kit is good??

Very! Excepting the "1:1" dogburster, and the Aliens chestburster. The chestburster is from their own sculpt and differs noticeably from the Aliens piece and vastly from the Alien version. The dogburster does not represent the film dogburster; it began life as a scaled version of the film cowburster and when the production switched to a dog instead of a cow, a completely new sculpt was made. At a guess, Halcyon probably couldn't afford to lose the money already invested in their scaled sculpt, so they just gave it new feet and renamed it.

It's a damn shame because the real dogburster design is barely seen but quite nice. Would have loved Halcyon to get to that, an accurate Alien chestburster, and an A3 queen facehugger.

I don't think it is a nightmare. You have an airbrush? Just give it a base coat of light tan, some darker pre-shading e.g. the nooks and crannies - and highlight the blood vessels in a bluish tone - then translucent overspray with more tan. After that some washes and drybrushing to bring out the fine detail. For the underside, same approach but with fleshy pinks and purples. :)

Swampdonkey's results look good. I did a 'dead' version of an A3 Halcyon hugger in greys and purples, intended for a broken stasis tube display that I never got around to. That worked, too.[/QUOTE]
