FABRICATING a real IRONMAN suit out of STEEL.

Amazing work! love it!

But if I may ask. What kind of equipment are you using for making all the curves and such? Do you also make use of a "english wheel"

You have given a amazing example what can be done effort and hard work.

Could you please tell me what kind of tools you're using for this build?

keep it up!

Thank you very much! The tools I use are a combination square, scribe, layout dye, a band saw, angle grinder, dye grinders, belt sander, both a mig and a tig welder, an anvil, hammer & dolly, a lathe, and a close eye for detail lol.

After the helmet is welded and sanded smooth, I will then be bringing my mill into play with the fabrication/machining of the numerous parts for the mechanisms that will make the face plate go up and down and the back of the helmet open and close.

If you've seen the avengers, you'll notice that when Thor shows up on the plane and takes Loki; tony picks up his helmet and puts it on and it closes around his head. That's the idea I have in mind for my helmet.

Made some good progress today. got the little trim/edge pieces all made and tacked together around the eyes and other places, and got most of the welding done.

I got the faceplate ground down and roughly smoothed out as well, which will soon be cut away from the helmet so I can begin putting the supporting edge on the faceplate and the helmet itself where it will nestle in when closed.

As for now, I would say that I'm at the portion of this part of the build where it will be most time consuming. I will be taking my time to make sure that everything is as smooth and clean looking as possible so that it will only require a very thin coat of body filler in various places.

Even tho this is going to take the most time, (which really isn't going to be that long) it's beginning to look like something and is quickly leading into the part of the build where it's going to start getting fun. Stay tuned and tell me what you think!

Now this is exactly what i was hoping to see. Beautiful work man. I just got to ask. Are you going to gold plate the face-plate. I know it's an expense but i think it would be well worth it. Absolutely stunning bro...GM

Like a God of fire, hammer and anvil smoking and hot from pounding the steel, you just created your helmet...love the roughness of it all:cool

Fantastic work! Just a thought: why has no one cast a helmet in aluminum yet? In theory it seems easy enough.

Haha thanks, I felt like I had dramatic music playing in the back round after picking it and looking at it when I was done sanding on it hahaha

I'm actually thinking about powder coating it. The gold would be awesome but I'm cheap and I want it to be durable, because I'm sure that I will end up acting like a little kid when I have it on and I'm sure alcohol will be involved sometime haha

Thank you very much! That's a pretty cool idea, and not far fetched at all; but the equipment required to do such a thing would probably be too expensive to do it. I like the idea tho!

Just about done grinding and sanding the welds, and now getting ready to start supporting the inside and cutting away the faceplate! I'll post more pictures tonight with more progress!

Made a lot more progress tonight! Disregard the crude temporary supports, they will come off eventually when I get further with the tedious stuff.

I am now ready to move to the next step of making a surface/supporting edge around the faceplate and helmet, and separating the jaw section from the helmet.

I'm not looking forward to doing the next part, considering it will take the longest but i don't think it'll be too bad so we'll see lol.

I hope everyone is enjoying watching my build progress. I'm open to any and all input/ideas anyone may have, so tell me what you think!
