Fabric Wrinkle Question

What is the best way to purposely wrinkle fabric? I search google but I end up with every way to un-wrinkle things..when I want to do the opposite.

I've tried sticking the fabric in a dryer and then wrapping it up in rubber bands while it cools but that only kinda worked. Should I have washed it first?

I would try soaking the fabric in water, then wring out whatever water you can, and put it in the dryer and dry it till it's slightly damp. Then bunch it up and let it dry. When I leave my clothes in the dryer overnight, my clothes is always wrinkled the next morning.

Ok I'll give that a go.

A lot depends on the kind of fabric - some kinds simply won't wrinkle no matter what you do. The best fabric for wrinkling is any kind of linen, it'll do it whether you want it to or not! A lot of synthetics don't wrinkle well on their own, you can press some in though. Use an iron set at a temp appropriate for your fabric, scrunch the material up and press with the iron.

If you've got something where the wrinkles come out over time and it's relatively thin, you might be able to bond it to fusible interfacing and then do fallimar's iron trick - that stuff will hold wrinkles really well because the adhesive melts and re-sets.

Yeah, good idea! Pop that on the back and it'll hold forever. Nice one.

It depends on how wrinkled you want it. If you want extremely wrinkled cotton, linen, or some cotton blends, wash the fabric then gather it up accordion style then twist it around a broom stick and hold it in place with rubber bands. Let it air dry. Next time you wash it, you will need to repeat the gather/twist/air dry process.

I just dyed and hand washed some Viscose for my nieces Rey costume and it wrinkled up right out of the wash.
