'fabric' Female Falconer (Wip)

Nice....

Alrighty, so not much of an update, this, but still.

I was out shopping today and because winter is fast approaching and I'm a wimp and get cold easily, I was out looking for some new gloves. I found some new gloves. Some awesome new gloves. So I bought them with the intention of keeping my fingers warm this winter.

Observant friend I was with was observant and said 'hey, won't they do for your Pred costume?' and lo, they will! Which means now I don't have to make Falconer's stupid techno-glove thing, I can just make an arm gauntlet thingy, I don't have to agonise over a hand covering any more.

So multi-use gloves for the measly sum of £11 that will both keep me warm and function as costume bits. Hurrah. Here they are:

Nice, ain't they? And far better than anything I could possibly make.

Nice idea, liking where this is going. Get on and get the gauntlets done WE WANT UPDATES !!!!! lol

BTW how is that bio coming on? I hope with blue lasers.....

GREEN. It's GREEN.

There's going to be a bio-making frenzy this weekend, I have the house to myself so I can go nuts for an entire day, and I intend to.

Also, wtf Michigan mittens xD Trust Mr Fett to post those!

Update and a whinge, lol.

So I set out this weekend with the best intentions of making the bio-mask. That didn't work because somewhere along the line, in the template stage, I buggered up my measurements so ended up with something faaaar too big that looked silly and just wasn't quite right. Started to reduce it in size and it all went to hell, really. No bio-mask this week, boys. The issue seems to be my glasses so I may have to just suck it up and take them off and rely on my friend to lead me around because I really can't see much without them. That would make it easier to make, actually...

I do have an idea for how to redo it but quite frankly I'm knackered today so will have to start fresh next week, lol.

Anyways I did get a few things done yesterday, I made me a foamboard wristblade, the top of the left arm gauntlet glove thing and the right shoulder armour. I also bought some epic beads for the fabulously fabulous fabric dreads. I go nuts when confronted with beads and couldn't resist! Negates the need for dread rings as well, hurrah.

Pics: Obviously the gauntlet sleeve needs some detail and both bits of armour need to be painted. The blade looks really crap under the light, lol. Also beads! Love my beads!

And here's a slightly fuzzy closeup of the blade tip - can't really tell from the photo but I managed to get a nice distressed metal effect going on with the paint.

Lady over and out ~

Looking pretty good, like that blade, how ridged is it? Those beads are nice, may have to swipe a couple wuhahahaha!! you would know, it was the cake honest o_O :p

Shame about that bio, I made that mistake with the first one I made - the dang thing was HUUUGE!

nice work, looking forward to your next update

Ridged? T'isnt, tis smooth. It's a good poking device though, so watch your back! I might reinforce the tip a little. I also need to smooth the edges, I was very distracted by the Wales v Australia rugby and there is some dodgy cutting happening on that blade.

And you ain't getting your mucky paws on my beads! Get yourself to Hobbycraft, they have this thing where you can fill a bead pot for £3.49 so I was stood there having a good furtle in the bead trays. I have more beads that I forgot to take a picture of, they're quite tribal-looking.

As for the bio, good news everyone! After a bit of brain-picking and a run in the rain (I do my best thinking on the move) I've worked out how to do it. Work on it will commence next weekend so hopefully I should have something substantial to show for it!

Oh look, double posting... ha.

Mini-update and a little explanation for my lack of any activity of late.

Update first (no pics because I cannot locate my camera):

I now have a really shoddily-made paper mache bio-mask. It's passable as a slightly warped version of Falconer and I'm sure it will look better when its been painted. I also ordered a pair of really gash red and black snakeskin leggings as the 'legs' for the outfit. Yes, I've had to have a little bit of a colour change because I cannot paint for s**t and am having to rely on available clothing to make the body from. Oh, bank balance, why are you so low? One day I'll be able to afford a proper skin... I also got the skirt finished! I'm going round a friend's at the weekend and she has a camera so I will take some pictures, I promise.

Reasons for lack of activity, bad mood and lack of enthusiasm:

Some of you already know this but I was struck down with a really nasty thing called reflux oesophagitis (look it up) and the doctor gave me some pills that were meant to make me better. Unfortunately in the past week I had a really bad reaction to them and have been very, very ill. The result of this is that I have done nothing on my costume because I've barely been able to move and I've been snappy to people (for which I apologise - Tom in particular). Add to that a slew of new stuff coming in at work and Lady has not been a happy kitten of late.

But because it's almost halfway through February and the 'con is at the end of March, I'd better get my little bee-hind into gear, hadn't I?

Over and out and back to bed... proper updates to follow, I promise...

Roll on the updates...... and find the poxy camera for ****** sake lol

Hope you get better soon Ma' Lady and (though I wasn't included (n) and speak on Tom's behalf (y) ) we forgive you for being snappy. Nice to see this thread back in swing lol......

I found it, pictures on Sunday, I promise!

Just a quickie to tell you guys how much I've spent on this thing, I've been keeping track and so far I'm pretty impressed with how cheap it's working out.

So, costings:

Hideous leggings - £9
Boots - already owned those
Fabric for 'skirt' and top - £15
Craft foam - £4.99
Beads - £6
Materials for bio (cereal boxes and newspaper) - free
Glue - £2
Paint - £10 to £15, not sure if I'll need to buy more than I already have
Fabric for dreads - £10ish?
Foamboard for blade - £4.99
Elastic, thread, needles and other sundries - £10.

Still to buy:
Top - will probably come in at about £30, because I'm buying a new thermal underskin for running and it just so happens to be black and will work with the outfit

So there you go! Super Pred on the cheap! Will post a final total when I know it... and some pictures on Sunday, I do really honestly promise this time.

That all sound all good and all but........................... PICTURES????????????!!!!! :p

Today I did nothing except sit in the pub and shout at the rugby. But I did manage to take some photos!

These are the cheap, tacky leggings I bought as my legs. It's really hard to take photos of your own legs. Also excuse the mess, I'm packing up my room to have it entirely rebuilt in a couple of weeks so there's crap everywhere:

Horrible, aren't they? Can't believe these are actually available as wearable clothing items, clearly designed for people with the fashion sense of a blind weasel.

Next, the world's cheapest bio mask. Cereal boxes and the Sunday Telegraph. It needs more work. I need to finish up the eyes, trim it round the sides and add some raised detail on the front. But hey, not bad for a first go and not bad on a very limited budget:

I can see fairly well in it, but the problem is it keeps fogging up my sunglasses that I'll be wearing under it to get the tinted lens effect so don't be surprised if you hear muffled swearing coming from behind it.

Finally, the back of the two-piece skirt. The front has yet again undergone a design change so will post that next week when I've decided if I'm going with a feather pattern or just sewing a crapton of beads on it:

It has lots of pockets built in so I don't have to drag a bag around with me.

So that's some pics of some of the stuff I've done. Not much, but then again there's not really much to this outfit. Next week I should get some painting up of stuff done and have the front of the skirt finished so hopefully will have more to show for it. Over and out.

Wow....

Those are some mean-assed leggings lol but they are brilliant for this hobby and great for the purpose ;)

That bio is coming along great, looks better than my first attempt. Don't look back and keep them pictures following....

in the words of Double the awesomeness ..... this is AWESOME!

Mini update, will upload pics later.

Painted up my armour today. Basecoated it with burnt umber and because I made it with red craft foam there's a strange reddish tint to the paint, it looks pretty cool. Not sure if it will dry in time for me to start the detailing, we will see.

Also thanks to a recommendation by oxtheii, I now no longer have to MAKE my dreads, I ordered a set of dreadfalls off Etsy. They're yarn, so they're quite thin, but my plan is to stitch beads into them anyway so that should fluff them out a bit. They'll do for now, when/if I get more money I'll get a thicker set.

What else... not much more, really. My list of Things To Do is getting shorter though! This is good!

Time to poke the armour and see if it's anywhere near dry yet... *bimbles off*

EDIT: I surprised myself with my own painting skills, lookit:
