Eyelashes on a bust

How do people do eyelashes? I have tried a couple times with some eyelashes I got from the makeup area at Wal Mart..but they always make them look like drag queens.

Any suggestions?

depends what the bust is made from.

On silicone ones, ive seen people cut a slit along the eyelid to sit the lashes in.

After i think you probably need to trim them, so they dont like so drag queen like!

These are resin busts...and i have trimmed them..still looks too black I spose. Maybe if I thin them out..less hair.

I've never come across fake eyelashes that actually look real enough. They all appear too thick and do not taper to a very fine point, plus they don't cross over randomly enough. You need very, very fine hairs.

I've only done eyelashes once:

Now you'll all probably think me crazy, but I did them by supergluing on loose hairs that I pulled out of my eyebrows - only thing realistic and fine enough I could find at the time.... :lol

I do something similiar with human hair but I usually end up using leftover hair scraps at my mom's salon. Mostly after cutting my own hair. Usually use these for both the eyelashes and eyebrows (if the sculpt has no eyebrows on them)

So whoever gets bust from me, gets a little bit of me AND my mom's customers...literally. :lol

After i cut the head off my mannequin, i removed the eyelashes and glued them to my Ramirez head, gave them a trim and voila!

Shop around for fake lashes online, you can find thinner less "Drag Queen" like lashes. Also look for colors other than black, as the lighter color helps to make them appear thinner.

Many companies make "light" and "short" lashes out of human hair, which look a lot more realistic than the thick black synthetic ones you get from most cosmetic places.

The problem is most people want thick black lashes for the bauty industry.

Get a fine paintbrush and cut or pull the hairs out. This is a trick doll restorers and customizers use. You can select a brush with bristles that suit the character you're working on as well as place them as thick or as sparsely as you want. On dolls, they usually have either a slit or small holes already. If you don't want to make a slit on your project, take a pin or needle and make tiny indentations along the eyelid. You can either dip the end of the "eyelash" in glue or use the point of the pin/needle as an applicator.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

Anyone care to guess why my eyes are sore right now..and what's in the tupperware sitting beside my PC at work? ;)

I'll try to use the pinhole, glue idea. Hope I have a steady enough hand. I figure I have a few weeks to grow more suntil I have enough. I can't remove ALL of my lashes so I need to keep saving the loose ones.

Creepy...

Congrats. Grossest post I've read all week. If you pull out your eyelashes, maybe you could use the paintbrush idea to replace yours!:lol
