Exclusive: Golden Gun

I wouldn't ever want to leave home without it. Meaning at some point, the TSA would confiscate my golden gun :(

After reading all the issues being mentioned over at ajb007 (most definitely not limited only to minor imperfections), I will reserve my judgement for after I get a chance to see the one I got, tomorrow ... after I fight with customs ... and pay the 20% fee ... and have a few glasses of wine to go to happy land and thus be unbiased :lol

Did you get yours through customs yet? Mine's been there since Sunday, and the tracking info hasn't updated! Getting worried they may have spotted the prop bullets and gotten suspicious...

Nope.

The postman hasn't been yet.

The system here is different. Once you see "Being processed through customs" .... it aint coming out dude.

I'm waiting for the postman to deliver a notice saying I have an item at the central post office, please go & collect.

Which i will this afternoon.

When I get there, I'll have to go through customs, & then I'll come back home.

... customs here are not allowed to open packages, only in the presence of the owner or an authorised representative.

It arrived yesterday morning.

But you can't go & collect without receiving the notice.

Beurocracy.

So here I am, in God's waiting Room, ready to jump into the breech of it, in another God's Waiting Room.

.... you get the idea.

.. sorry for another post, but I am half expecting to be sent to the police, to get a licence for it, which will mean another 3 days. That's what happened when I got an Indiana Jones resin revolver .... only to be sent back to customs by the police telling them to get a life and grow up.

Whoa! And I thought I had worries! That's terrible, jumping through all those hoops.
I remember the time I got my 1:1 Terminator Endo, I had a fun time trying to explain to customs what exactly it was... they probably thought I was crazy... I'll likely get another grilling when the HCG Pulse Rifle arrives :(

OK, got my Golden Gun out of customs & am back home.

Postman came with the advice note at 2.45pm, and customs at the PO stays open till 4.

So I dashed off (will find out if I got any speeding tickets in a couple of weeks time) and got there in time.

I was back home at 4.30.

No problems there, as the customs guys seemed to be in an unusually good mood.

Must be because tomorrow is a public holiday, and I was the last person there.

Aaaaaaaany way, lets get the bad tastes out of my mouth first.

They brought in the box, and the first thing to whack me across the head was that the postage cost USD54. I paid 86 something.

Not a good start, it made me feel like I was receiving something from eBay.

So FE, if you're reading this (duh), check your records & do the right thing.

2nd bad taste - box knocked around in transit, leading to actual GG box getting somewhat dented round the edges.

3rd bad taste that almost gave me a heart attack - at customs, they made me open every nook and cranny of the package ..... and I couldn't find the gun components ! I finally decided to check the only place I didn't, the styroform block inside the acrylic cover. "can't be here I thought, it's a light as a bleeding feather !" ... thus remembering some comments I read elsewhere about the GG's weight.

Sure enough, there they were.

So got home, had my promised 2 glasses of wine and started having a good look at everything.

First and foremost, assembling the gun was a piece of cake. Everything fit like a hand in glove, screwed in nicely, etc. Perfect.

Examined the gun itself, and bar a minute scratch on the pen, absolutely perfect.

I played around with it for a while, and the weight grew on me. It's not heavy, and its not that light. It's great.

Put together the plaque etc, put it in my showcase and took a few pics.

My opinions / self-FAQ's as follows :

Do I like it ? I absolutely adore it !

Is the quality OK ? Absolutely yes !

Can I compare it to my SD Studios GG ? Absolutely not. SD Studios is SD Studios, is SD Studios. It's in a class of its own.

Is the price I paid fair ? Absolutely yes !

Would I have bought an LE instead of an SE ? No. I can't compare them at all. The signatures are an integral part of what I wanted, so I cannot for a moment bring myself to think that I would have ever bought a LE.

Bottom line - except for the postage, perfect for the price. I couldn't be happier !

Another fantastic item for my collection that I will treasue for a very very long time !

I did of course write to Barry to moan about the shipping costs :lol.

In all fairness, I will do the correct thing & quote his reply relating to this matter, hereunder for the board.

------------------------

Have checked the shipping rates and they are correct.

The ‘stamp’ on the package is just that it only reflects the actual cost of the metered postage for the package. It does not include any additional fees that the USPS charges us, in this case;

· Insurance

· Tracking and Signature Fee

· Fuel surcharge (airmail)

· Sales Tax

· Collection Fee

Our website talks directly to the USPS/Indicia site and quotes the precise and exact amount, less any fees such as handling and card processing which we absorb, and this means we actually loose a small amount on each USPS transaction

This quite normal for most postal services. When you send a package with additional services the ‘stamps’ on the package will not be the same as what you are actually charged. For example if you send a registered letter there is a fee, but this is paid to the post office clerk, they do not add that fee in stamps to the letter.

We have negotiated discount rates with the USPS and I think you will find that our rates for international shipping via USPS are actually quite reasonable. If you were to get a quote to ship a similar size and weight box with insurance and direct signature from the UK to CA you might be shocked at the costs. USPS currently offers the best value as both DHL and Fed-Ex international rates are frankly insanely expensive.

Regards

Barry

Great review and display Alan.

I am not that happy with their shipping policy, I was going to order the blueprint for the GG but they wanted $75US to ship it to Australia.
I dont like being a part of a set shipping arrangment if it means such rates but what can you do?

Sent them an email to please make sure that my order is carefully checked for any faults as i dont want to pay $70.00 to send it back
to them and then they charge me another $120 to send a new one back to me.

But, i still cant wait to get it.

You should not have to pay ANY more shipping.

They should pay for return shipping of the defective item as well as shipping a replacement.

ok I have a question cause I really want one of these

It seems the LE is still available just on backorder (I can only assume there still available seeing as their still taking the down deposits for them)

anyways I was wondering if there was a monthly pay some now pay some more next month type plan

or is it pretty much just pay the rest of it at the time of it being available for shipping?

Well my gun just arrived at home (I'm at work) and customs decided they wanted 120 Euro to let it through. I'd tell you what I thought about that but this is a family forum....

I'm excited about it and at the same time dreading seeing it - all the reports of faulty guns worries me. It's going to be a long 3 hours until hometime!

Alan, how much tax did you have to pay for yours?

"only" 75 Euro. They "only" charged me VAT, but no duty. (note the " "). I convinced them pretty well that it's a personal item of no value to anyone but me. Too true.

Well I had nothing to worry about after all! It's in mint condition. The corners of the cardboard box were a bit dinged but it's no big deal. I'll try to get some photos as soon as possible.

Has anyone tried to remove the red plug in the barrel?

That is why I'm taking a wait and see attitude. A couple of people on another forum mentioned they had some QC issues and before you know it, others have blown it so far out of proportion that you would think every single one has issues. As we have seen most of the people posting here don't have any problems.

Well, here it is! Very happy with it.

Now the bad news. a few hours after I got it, I put it on top of a bookcase to photograph it. After taking the pics below, I went to put the dust cover back on, I accidentally bumped the gun and knocked it backwards off the bookshelf (a 4ft drop onto carpet). I can't even describe the panic I felt as I went to pick it up.

Luckily it was mostly undamaged, but whatever way it hit the ground, the threaded bar off the cufflink took all the impact, as it's bent out of shape. It's not a big bend, but it's enough to make screwing it in very difficult. I'm scared to screw it in and out in case it breaks off in the hole.

I emailed FE about the possibility of buying a replacement cufflink, they've yet to reply but I hope they can do something. It was a completely stupid accident and I'm still kicking myself :cry
