I don't see any threads about this costume and I am looking to start off with a thread that has as much info on Ash's costume as possible.
If anyone has info - such as 'identified' off-the-rack clothing, reference photos, distressing specifics, links, etc. please post here.
Not sure if the chainsaw would fall under this category because it is essentially a prop, but also part of the overall costume so if you have info on that please post.
Now gimmie some sugar, baby.

Well, I do remember a thread and not sure if it was on this forum or not, about the make of the shirt, pants and boots.
Being from Michigan, Sam, and Bruce are what got alot of us into filmmaking...I remember someone asking Sam, why Ash was dressed in shop clothes...his response was they didn't want him to be dated by his clothing when someone watched the movie 20 years from now. They figured work clothes haven't changed much since the 50's so...they you have it.

I remeber dickies being a brand, not sure if that's the shirt, or pants. I'll look through some of my saved files. As far as distressing, I highly recommend perma-blood. You put it on it dries shiny for that wet look, you can wash your costumes and it'll be fine.
It's also flexable so no cracking. Great stuff for nasty bloody look.
Found here.

There have been a bunch of threads on the chainsaw and a couple costume show off threads here over the years. A quick search should turn them up.

I did a search for ash/evil dead in costumes. I'm only seeing showoff threads for the chainsaw. I'm looking for info on the clothing first.

I put this costume together and did quite a lot of research for it, although it was more end of Evil Dead 2/beginning of Army of Darkness, Ash . I never was able to find specific brands on items but these are some of the things I discovered along the way.

Shirt - to me it looked like denim which would have fit with the time when the movie came out. Denim work shirt. At the time there weren't too many out there so I found one on E-Bay. Flap pockets. I replaced the stock white buttons with blue ones to better match what I thought I was seeing on screen.

Pants - could have been brown Dickies work pants but the pair I bought just didn't have the right look, so I found a pair of non-pleated brown docker style pants. The thinner material made for pants that would lay better and that could be distressed easier.

Boots - these were a hard find. They are hiking boots, brown, most likely Hi-Teks of the 80's.

Let me know if this is the type of info you are looking for and I can continue.

You'll either pull off the costume or you won't, but it won't be because of insignificant details of the clothing (or the saw for that matter). Ash's costume changed from movie to movie, and even from scene to scene (depending on how much blood/gore there was). Screencaps will be your best friend there. Other than that, just keep looking at thrift stores, I say. Brown pants, blue shirt, boots, chainsaw arm, and Boomstick. Done.

Ash wears Vasque boots... They're vintage though, that exact style is from Italy.
It took forever to find the right look of these boots because the action figures really throw you off with that black area on the sides, which is not present in the film.

Check ebay!

Everyone, I think I've found the closest to the actual costume as could be found. After reading interviews with Sam Raimi where he specifically wanted to use basic work clothes "so that Ash's clothing won't date him when people watch the movie in 10 or 20 years", I think I've got what he either actually wore in the movie, or the closest "off the rack" substitute, which is exactly what Sam would have picked if he made the movie today. It's actually really simple and cheap! (and I included the chainsaw and boomstick for completeness)

Shirt: Dickies 574 Mens Long Sleeve Work Shirt - Gulf Blue
Pants: Dickies 874 Mens Original Fit Work Pants - Dark Brown
shoes: any solid brown shoes with laces, honestly
chainsaw: Modified Homelite XL chainsaw
Shotgun: Evil Dead 1 - H&R Pardner 20-gauge single barrel shotgun
Evil Dead 2 - Stevens 311-C 12-gauge double barrel shotgun
Army of Darkness - Stoeger IGA 20" 12-gauge shotgun

Yeah, I know: "But that's just the standard Dickies work clothes!" Yeah, I think that's what they did, lol. There ya go- discuss, investigate, enjoy!

The shirt is definitely Dickies, but I disagree on the pants. Looking at the new blue ray, they look like dark brown corduroy pants to me.
