I have started playing this again not that long ago and had forgotten how good it was!

I played it as a kid when it first came out on the Mac many years ago and still love it to this day, I even remember finally being able to buy a confederate crusier and being all excited!

Granted the graphics on EV/EVO are a bit dated but i have to say its still a massively brilliant game and looking back at it now there are some great ship designs I would love to build.

Chances are slim there will be another one ever but even one alone those lines (same top down view) would be great. Even the B5 mod was excellent on it.

So was anyone else here hooked on it?

GOD, I loved that game! I remember that killer theme that opened the title (WHAT IS THAT CALLED?) and the six buttons folding outward to form the main menu. I remember starting out in a shuttlecraft, upgrading to a Courier ship, being able to defend myself against foes in the Argosy, being able to initiate fights in the Corvette and attacking entire solar systems in the Kestrel.

It was also the first game where I experienced in-game modifications, in this game's case plug ins. There were some that upgraded the detail on the ships, added more voices to your fighters, ect. I remember my friend owning a copy of the original and never registering it, thinking that Captain Hector was literally part of the game. He didn't know what it meant by "don't forget to register escape velocity!".

Great memories of those games all around.

"Meet me in the bar."

P.S. The developers were also big MST3K fans!

I cant remember what it is called but all the opening themes were great!

I hear you on the upgrading, each jump to the next ship was so hard earned and made such a difference that it really was a constant goal.

Seeing that screen with the added Govt. ships was a great feeling aswell.

Some PVC, Foamex/Styrene and I will have a Kestrel again!
