Whoahhh! Nice paintjob! How did you do the paint chip?

Thanks :$

The paintjob/ weathering was done by masking the areas with liquid latex before painting white and dirtiyng up. Then it was time to scratch the whole mess off.

Note to myself...always apply the masking fluid THICK enough so the paint chips easily ;)

I had to come back and take another look ...... :)

Esspecially i like the way your cast semi-opaque soft plastic frontpart looks (the one i turned the alu-master), seems you matched the color really good - probably i don´t need to replace it on my binoc with a turned piece of PE? (y)cool

Thanks Michael.
This piece is pretty much a hit´n´miss item.
The regular kits will include these in tinted resin (black, white, grey...), but I TRIED to come up with a few semi-transparent pieces by mixing only a tiny drop of white dye into the resin. In addition to that the resin has to be degassed before pouring and even then it shows small bubbles within. I only did this on a few and every single cast cam out slightly different :cry

So for all who want to have this piece in opaque, upgrading to a machined part is pretty much the only chance.

I will post a detailed description about the contents of my kit when the time has come, so everyone has the chance to decide wether he wants to deal with it or not.

Damn, it looked so good. :cry

I hoped you´ve found a perfect way to get the right look with casting. Would have been easier.

Update 10.09.2012:FINALLY!!!!

Since I´m preparing myself for a run of HOTH binocs, I´d need pretty much all info and references I could get...

I aready searched google and flickr and saved the pics from POSW, but I´m still looking for additional -prefferably- HIGH RES pictures from all angles :love

These will help me with the detailing, build of the conversion parts and later paintjob.

Please post pics, links or simply email me at odendall@t-online.de

MANY THANKS in advance!!!

Markus

Hi, When I was at Celebration VI this year I took photos of these ESB Electrobinoculars from the PropStore exhibit which they say were used in the original movie. I hope this helps.

Small update.

I have been able to "finish" my personal Hoth binocs, by finally adding the insert into the machined clampring and replacing the thin clear plastic lenses on the front-eye with actual dark-green welding-goggle glasses :thumbsup

Pics by the end of this week.
