Enterprise TOS Bridge Model

This is my 1/35 scale USS Enterprise TOS Bridge Set from AMT/ERTL. I combined three kits, two from the original AMT series and a Lunar Models Bridge Accurizing Kit. I used Testor Model Master spray paints right from the can. It was featured in the Readers Gallery section of FineScale Modeler Magazine in the November 2005 edition. The base was created out of a 1 inch section of plywood with the edges routered using an "Ogee" type of bit. The turboshaft was a 5 inch OD piece of plastic electrical conduit made by Carlon Co. The floor of the set was a plastic "For Sale" sign that I flipped over and painted grey.

Note: As a kid in the 1970's the TOS Bridge has always fascinated me. I currently own 6 Burke Model 115 chairs and the seat cushion from a Madison Co. chair. The Burkes are the blue swivel chairs and the Madison is the Captain's chair. Also, I have a set of Michael McMasters Revised Bridge Blueprints. If I live long enough and my investments are good to me, I will one day have a professionally built full scale mock-up of this bridge. Thanks for looking!

I've been a member here lurking with no posts for a couple of weeks now. This model brought me out of the shadows. Wow. Hard to believe it is so small. Terrific work.

Wow! That's a great build, from the old AMT kit. I had that one myself as a kid, but was too frustrated with its limitations. You have shown us how it should be done! :cool

I've been looking for that Lunar Bridge Accurizing Kit for some time... any leads on where to find one?

Looks great! Fantastic job.

Great Job there. I tried building several of those as a kid and they all turned out like a kid did them..lol

Good to see one done right!

Unfortunatley, no. I purchased the Lunar Models kit back in 2004 from Monsters in Motion. Probably not available from them. Might get lucky on EBAY. The accurate Burke swivel chairs and pedestals were the best part of that kit, for me that is.

Looking good.

I wanted to look at all the pictures but clicking on those thumbnails, they take FOR EVER to load up, so I will enjoy the small pictures.

Looks really well done though.

You did a very good job! Your photography is excellent too. I'm curious, where did the second kit come into use? It looks like the only additional set pieces is the Engineering station. :thumbsup

Thank you for the compliment. You are correct, the second AMT kit was for an additional crew "station". The Lunar Models kit had the updated chairs, science station, turbo lift, helm/navigation console and Captains chair. Those parts were made of resin, had a really hard time getting the Testor's Model Master Paints to stick to them. I purposely left a couple of sections out so that one got the impression you could walk up the routered edges on the base into the Bridge Set. Sort of like the 3/4 display of the bridge mock-up you see at the traveling Star Trek Experience. I built the model in 2004 so I am a little rusty on what is what. Probably going to be next to impossible to get the Lunar Models Accurizing Kit. Originally that came from MonstersinMotion.com. Hats off to a guy named Thomas Sasser. He originally had some great pictures posted on Starship Modeler about his bridge build up. He did a far greater job with all of the details. I could always upgrade this with backlit panels: however, enough is enough. :)

I'm working now on re-building my old beater AMT TOS Enterprise. When done, I'm going to break apart my old AMT bridge and re-build it, too using McMasters plans. I like your ideas of upgrades to get rid of some inaccuracies. Great job on your build-out.

I built up at least two of each AMT TOS model back in the '70's, typically one was poorly done, and the second was much better (for a 10 year old, that is). At least I have spare parts...

Sweet build. I am also working on this kit with the backlit panels from CultTV Man. Wish I could have picked up the accurizing kit from Lunar as well.

I'll post pics when I get mine done -- but may be another few weeks -- lot of work cutting all those panels out for lights.

Thanks. I wish those backlit panels would have been around when I did this build back in 2004. Looking forward to the pics!
