Fixes to the model listed in the video include

- the “four lights” hotspots in the nacelle grilles (the light will be diffused)
- the iridescent Aztec pattern on the top and bottom of the saucer will be improved
- the base is being redesigned to eliminate the downward-tilt problem we saw in the prototype
- lighting effects like the phasers firing will be improved (it’ll be more like lightning flashes instead of blinking)
- adjustments to the lights in the base that point up at the ship’s registry
- “other kinks” being worked out
What do we know about the rapid blinking (strobe like) beacons on the top saucer. Under the secondary hull and on top of the pylons? Those are very distinctive compared to other the running lights, and would be a shame if not included or not more prominent than the other navigation lighting effects.

As a consultant to Tomy I am advising study of how those strobes and lights appear in the film. In later films, the "strobes" turn into just blinkers, but I too would like to see a sharp strobing flash on these, as seen in TMP.

Here is a collage of Enterprise shots from TMP that I have collected for easy reference.

On the video he mentioned spotlight from the base lighting something on the model. Would'nt it be better to have it lit by the lights on the model itself like in TMP?

Also please ditch the bulbus, roundish base that makes the entire thing look like a toy display instead of an amazing model..

A simple rectangular base, big enough so we can add an acrylic cover and a mirror please. That is all we need.

In the films, the lighting that appears to emanate from spotlights on the hull in reality mostly comes from mirrors positioned outside the model. The setup for the self-lighting shots was complex and it tended to get simplified from movie to movie.

On the Tomy, it will be a mixture of prisms/light pipes to light the hull from within, and also spots projecting from the base. Some spotlights seen in the film will not be physically possible.

None with the nacelles, but the Refit pylons are narrower / more sleek, which concerns me. Also nothing major with the neck, it just flexes a bit because there's a ton of weight in the saucer, then a narrow neck, then a ton of weight in the rest of the ship.
It looks like that pylons might be a little thicker than the studio model (similar strategy that art asylum took with their refit toy). Possibly for extra reinforcement?

The thickness of the pylons and other structural issues are under review, but yes that started as a reinforcement strategy for our heavy diecast metal model. :)
That’s great to hear! Beautiful prototype. Even down to the sheen/gloss that it had due to the pearlescent lacquers. It resembles past descriptions of the refit studio model(unfortunately very few color photos were taken of it during TMP). The only potential strange spot imho is the saucer seam surrounding the bridge, but that’ll probably be addressed

Thanks! Yes remaining visible seams are also being addressed.

When my saucer is off the neck wiggles just a bit. But stable if the saucer is on. But I think if anyone tries hard enough they can get it to move. But as long as it doesn't stop I'm good.

Holy crap I just realized two more versions Tomy can do in addition to the A, and I would buy them as well.

The Wrath of Kahn Battle Damaged.

The Search for Spock blowing up.

I would prefer the little pod shuttles, but I don't mind the Surak Shuttle.

I am just curious why you dislike it so much?
There's a lot of crap surface 'detail' that isn't on the model. It looks like they've just copied someone's garbage 3D print.

Got it. I am sure it's just the prototype and it will look awesome when they are done.
