Hey folks. Another quick project here, with a small write up.
Seen a lot of cool versions of this headpiece and I just absolutely loved the piece in the film. Perhaps one of the only things from the film I can say I loved.. Or even liked! :lol
So I sculpted it out of Chavant NSP and applied some texture using Kyrlon's Hammered Paint. It was sculpted on a scrap piece of ABS plastic, so I could spray it and then just remove the excess paint. The mold was a simple dump mold using thinned Rebound 25, backed with Rebound 40. I typically wouldn't do a dump mold with Rebound but it is what I had on hand.
I cast this test copy out of Free Form Air for two reasons.. One, it is super light weight and relatively strong. Two, it is also just what I happened to have on hand.
Onto painting!
Step one was a good wash and some primer. Step two is not pictured, but I base coated the piece in a nice turquoise color.

Step three was the antiqued metal look. Using lots of blues and greens I mottled around the surface to give it variation. I used some lighter blues to highlight areas and darker greens to sink in the recesses. It was given a quick seal with a satin clear coat before the gold leafing process began.

Step four was gold leafing the piece. Using some faux gold leaf and the supplied adhesive, I carefully applied it where I thought it should go. Quite a bit more gold leaf stuck than what I was initially hoping for, and the next cast will hopefully be a little more sparing with the gold.
I then antiqued the gold using some brown and red tones, as well as giving the whole piece a quick dark wash.

Finally, I sealed the piece in the Future, did one more quick wash with brown, and sealed it once more. So here is the finished piece!

So from sculpt to finished piece, this was about three days total. I'm very happy with it, and I think it will look great with the rest of my collection.
I feel like the final pictures will do a better job showing off the blues.. as that is something I'm particularly happy with. It is a very, very pretty piece.
I'll have blank and painted copies up on Etsy soon if anyone is interested! I'll also post it up in the Project Runs section of the forum.
Thanks for checking out my work, and keep making!
