EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Additional Animation Footage

Seeing this has made me feel so much better, cracking animation and effects. I am working on a 1980s film which had such a low budget the effects were dire. So I am redoing all the effects, and reinserting them into the film. Seeing someone else do the same makes me feel much better and lot less (daft) on my own. Just built a model for greenscreen work, doing Matte Painting and digital effects. over 137 effects shots, spent a year doing 10 percent of that and lost my computer so redoing it all again. I love the models and motion that you have done. Did you use the go motion technique or fantasy effects technique of vaseline for motion blur?

Absolutely stunning work gentlemen!

Perhaps from a cinematic point of view might I suggest that you mirror the jumping over the cave sequence so that Luke and the Taun Taun still seem to be going in the same right from left direction ... now it seems you've crossed the invisible yet noticeable camera axes, which in turn is quite confusing.
Furthermore mirroring that sequence still makes it possible for the Wampa to sneak up and along from behind and yet still be out of Luke's view to make his surprise attack.

Well I just realised that your lighting might be all wrong when you'd simply mirror the shot. Alas I don't have editing software otherwise I'd checked this beforehand.

Anyhow I love your stopmotion animation :love

Just used my fancy homemade "Manual-Motion" rig LOL!!

I'm okay with CGI, but there is something special in the analogical stop motion animation, something that can't be accomplished with a computer. Great stuff! I loved the little detail with falling snow over the wampa cave entrance.

God that is a beautiful puppet and set!!! Love your ESB stop mo too.

There's just something about the stop mo that seems magical to me. Top of my list of older stuff is Harryhausen's "First Men in the Moon" creature animation and those way cool flying saucers from "Earth vs. The Flying Saucer".

Just great work. Your whole set-up is beautiful. I love stop motion.
To me, the reason stop motion works the way it does is because, no matter the size of the puppet, it is a REAL object. The brain automatically understands this. When you add in the motion, that sense of reality (or some kind of hyper reality) takes place.
Tippet's T-Rex test for Jurassic Park is a thing of beauty. It just looks real to me (this test loop gives a pretty good feeling for what might have been):
