I hope they at least changed the shipping boxes to be different than the Luke reveal boxes. Nothing like stating on the outside of the box, "item you might want to steal".

for those interested here is an interesting paragraph from the EfX email:

"We will be allocating the helmets in the order that the pre-orders were received. Your order number is XXXXXX. For those of you who ordered a Legend, you may remember that we overloaded the credit card server and caused a huge backlog in the credit card authorization process. So, for the those who ordered a Legend, we will allocate in the order that the authorizations came back from the credit card gateway, which may not necessarily be the same order that the orders were submitted for authorization. We will contact you when the helmet allocated to you is en route from Asia via e-mai"

Wow, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Dumb question: so eFX definitely does send edition numbers according to purchase order? I know Sideshow doesn't (or do they? haha) but I wasn't sure if that was standard. I know with Sideshow that the numbers don't correspond with the order in which it was made, same case w/ eFX? Sorry, kind of new to the prop/collectible scene. Thanks guys

Here's the rest of the email. sent by eFx

    "Dear Steven:

First, thank you very much for your patience as we worked with our vendor to develop the most accurate replica of the iconic Darth Vader helmet as seen in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

I would like to give you a brief update on the status of this project. Lucasfilm has given us the final approval and thus, we are now in production. In fact, we had on display actual production pieces of both the Legend and Limited Editions at WonderCon in Anaheim, CA this past weekend.

We anticipate shipping the first quantity from Asia in about 30 days. We do not have a definite number of helmets that we will ship yet since each helmet will be thoroughly inspected and some helmets will be rejected because of our strict Quality Control Specifications.

We will be producing the Legend Edition first, followed by the Limited Edition."

As far as shipping goes, the above email states that the helmets are scheduled to ship from Asia to California in 30 days, so shipping and clearing customs will likely take another 2 to 3 weeks.

Looks good. Congratulations to those of you who managed to get one of these.

What's with the fine mesh behind the main mouth grills? Don't recall ever seeing that in pics of the ANH mask??? I think I'd want to take that out if I was getting one of these.

Hopefully they can speed things up so I can get the Legend Biker Scout helmet sooner rather than later!

Oh dear Lord, everytime i think im done spending this year, i get an email saying that the item i reserved a year ago its almost ready to be paid in full.
When i finally pay this incredible Vader and the rest of the projects i currently have, ill finally assume that i wont spend more money, and then eFX will open the reserve for the Stormtrooper helmet, or show an amazing helmet that i know i will want.

No savings for me i guess.

here is my take on the email:

"we will allocate in the order that the authorizations came back from the credit card gateway, which may not necessarily be the same order that the orders were submitted for authorization."

So to me that means whomever had their CC charged first would get #1 and so on from there. Although I do know that usually the single digit numbers of any edition are usually reserved for employees.

They're not talking about edition numbers. Their edition numbers are packed randomly. They just mean that just because you have order #0001 doesn't mean you'll get one of the first however many helmets get shipped in the first batch. It's all based on whose credit card was run through first, not who ordered first.

I imagine that is the plan. There was a bit in the email stating that they would notify you when your helmet is ready to ship:

"We will contact you when the helmet allocated to you is en route from Asia via e-mail, so please ensure that our e-mails do not end up in your SPAM file."

So, based on their estimated timetable, it looks we'll need to have the funds ready about the middle of May.

I got my email as well, looking forward to seeing one in person.

The 2nd layer of mesh bothers me too Chris.
The lack of paint on the 2nd tusk also looks like something that needs to be done differently.

Overall it looks alot cleaner than I would have expected but the thing sure is sharp looking overall.

The right tusks on both the Legend and Limited versions will be weathered, and more substantially than what you see in the pics.

Also, there is only one layer of mesh in the mouth grills.
I think what you might be seeing is the fine fabric that is part of the inner lining.

    Hi All!

    Let me answer your questions:

    1. Because of the lag on the credit card server most of the authorizations came back at the same time! Those who were watching the status bar may have noticed that it did not move, then all of a sudden, it shot to nothing! Because of this overload, our website continued to allow customers to put one in their basket even though it was sold out. That is why we increased the edition size to 364, because that is how many got caught up in the lag! And, the only "list" that we have is the the order that the authorizations came back from the credit card gateway. We do not have a record when the "BUY NOW" button was clicked.

    2. As always, we allocate edition numbers randomly. We do not go in any specific order.

    3. The right tusk will be weathered. Unfortunately, when we were setting up, one of the tusks fell off and we had to replace it.

    4. The mesh is part of the internal padding. We wanted to make sure the edges of the wire mesh were not exposed. The facemask is fully padded. And, you cannot see it from the outside.

    Thanks!

    Bryan

    Thanks Bryan.

Will the packaging be more discrete on this item? I had a box labeled "Luke Skywalker reveal lightsaber" sitting on my front porch all day when that item arrived. Will the shipments be trackable so we'll know when to expect them?

Thanks Gino and Bryan for addressing my questions/concerns.

I hope that this is true, because the way it looks in the photos I have seen from WonderCon the material behind the mouth mesh does stand out. Can the padding be removed or is it glued into the mask?

I really don't think you will actually see the thin fabric in person. But the flash and/or the lights are making it seem a lot more prominent.

I'd say a steady hand and tiny scissors or a razor would remove it if you really wanted.

    I'm so PSYCHED!!!

    Go team eFX!!!

Congrats on doing what they said could not/would not be done! An accurate liscensed ANH Vader?

5 years ago I would have never imagined I would be getting a LISCENSED ANYTHING star wars that would be on par, let alone MORE ACCURATE than any fan cast available!

A liscensed helmet that will surely be the crown jewel in even the biggest best helmet collections on the boards/In the world!!!

I had to get a new CC number about 3 weeks after the pre-orders went through. I called to ask what I had to do and was told that it's not an issue - they didn't store the CC number. Just used it for the purchase. When the balance is due, you'll be notified it's due and you can login and pay for the rest of it.

Hmmm. I thought the big sales pitch of the LEGEND line was that it was going to be EXACTLY like the originals. The full lining and thin mesh behind the main mouth grills is a shame because it quite obviously wasn't like that on the mask which Prowse wore.

I wouldn't have any objections about this being used on the cleaned-up version, but why do this on the Legend version?

I guess they must have added that fine mesh in there after you'd seen it GINO. :confused

I think it stinks that Limited folks have to wait longer while the Legend guys get theirs first. I bet I won't see mine until November or December.

I am stoked to get the update. Now I just have to decide if I'm going to leave mine alone or repaint it by hand.

Bet it does not take that long to cycle into the LEs, I would guess the Legends are done in 90 days from start to finish, the LE should be right behind that, I would guess it will be alot like the Luke helmets, the ANH and ESB versions all happened at the same time, so be ready.

Am looking forward to seeing an LE painted up right. I think a really good repaint could really make it special. (while maybe less "collectible" to the average buyer)

So no comment on CKs question about the liner not being in the original? I was hoping for foam like the screen masks had.

Problem is no one has a shot of what the interior of the screen-used ANH looked like on the inside.
The original helmets that I saw had all different kinds of foam stuffed in there.
Some were just torn chunks of foam that the costume people custom fitted for Dave P. or Bob A. on the fly.

As you know, the only criteria for an EFX product to quality for Legend Edition status are that it must be primarily created by either :
    1. directly molding a screen-used/production made original or...
    2. utilizing original production molds from the LFL archives or ...
    3. a combination of the two.

When it comes to finishing a Legend piece, prop accuracy will not always necessarily extend into areas that you cannot see from a display standpoint, such as the interiors of the pieces, (like for example under the dome of the Vader helmet).
It also may not always apply to the original materials of the screen-used piece.
Every situation is unique and evaluated on a case by case basis.

Some of these aspects are mass-production prohibitive and some are just not practical from a quality collectible standpoint.
We try to find the right balance of complete accuracy and what makes strategic sense all things considered (and there are a lot more things to consider vs when we are making a prop for ourselves out of our garage).

Our goal is to as much as practically possible, create the visual appearance of screen accuracy when viewing the item from the outside (ie when being displayed).

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification GINO.
Still - it looks like they sneaked the fine mesh in there without telling you since you stated that there was only one layer of mesh in there. :lol
I'm just kidding with you. Looks good from the outside but seriously, I would hope the fine mesh is less visible in person than it appears in those wondercon pics. If it's visible, I'd want to cut that sucker out of there!

Thats like asking why we want helmets that have sloppy brush painted finish with warts and drip marks.
It is all about replicating screen accuracy and not just having a collectible prop.

Yes, you are right¡¡¡ :thumbsup.. sorry about the joke...

But tell me, for 999 bucks what do you expect????...yes, we love all accuracy, we love all the dings, the bumps, the bad paint, and everything, just like the one we saw in movie theatre in 77, but like it or not, this particular helmet is a COLLECTIBLE PROP REPLICA. For real screen accuracy dont search for efx collectibles, try PROFILES IN HISTORY or CHRISTIE's auctions.

It is so funny to see in almost a year, that every single and stupid detail in this particular bucket is take it to a sick level of criticism.:eek

Relax, Since the day that i knew Gino was on board i stop worried.

But is just a collectible piece who happened to be created from a mold of the original and they call it LEGEND...but thats all¡¡¡¡ 999 bucks is nothing for a replica of this caliber, but is the end of the story.

You can do whatever you want with it...you pay for it.

As for me, i have better things to do in life but worried about the mesh or the missing bump of this COLLECTIBLE PIECE, a piece that is going to rest in my display shelve, and looks very close to the original prop for just 999. But for me is not more relevant than that. :)

    PEACE¡¡¡

BTW: Gino, great work on this bucket inside and outside. With all your respect, i know now why are you bald....¡¡¡¡ year after year of trolling????...sheesh¡¡¡...:wacko

So you send out the numbered prop randomly.

Is the number random as well or is it actually the number of the prop that came off the line???

Really just curious as I have never cared about low number. Just wondering.

BTW even though I am an idealized prop man it's still a very cool one for those who want it.

When is the Jedi Reveal Vader Coming??? That is one I would line up for.

Let me take a stab at what Gino may not be able to come out and say...

The original looked like crap and that metal mesh is jagged as all get out! :confused

For an asthetic point of view and prob even a safety point of view... Think orange tip on replica fire arms. Do you not think those people know that makes their replica not 100% identical in SOME way?

Do you think the replica gun people actually expect you to not paint or remove the plug?

I think this gives the piece a more finished look. The original had some glued in piece of metal and each helmet/mask had DIFFERENT lining. Some looked like you cut up a foam matress and shoved random bits in there. :sick

All the TK helmets that we've seen had the same foam star... if the new bucket has something BETTER... and you dont like it... I'd say the same thing as here... CUT IT OUT AND AD YOUR OWN 25c piece of foam in there!

The hard part is getting a casting with NEAR this kind of lineage... yet some of our own members have AWESOME castings the average Joe cant get ahold of... the hard part isn't the sourcing, cutting, and gluing of the foam. :rolleyes :lol

This is amateur hour stuff for any RPFer... if you want a more accurate POS looking interior that will make your friends and wives say... "HOW MUCH did you pay for this? It looks like a 5 year old made the inside!!!"

I'll keep mine the way it comes from eFX! (y)thumbsup
