Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Thanks Jason. As I mentioned the hulls you got were a bit of a Beta Test and I've optimised things a bit better for the ones I'm doing now. The hulls and airbrake boxes are an Epoxy gel coat backed up up with a carbon fibre reinforced epoxy paste. Strong but light.

The hulls actually have a bit of flex in them which helps in the build. Everyone should note that though strong the hulls are more brittle than say the same thing done in PU. Take care with the edges of the hulls till they are fixed together. As they are epoxy a bit of milliput will sort out any filing issues.

Hope it goes together ok.

Looks F'n FANTASTIC. and you must be congratulated if you're getting high praise from a group like that (at Jason's place).

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

I can't use the words I just said when I saw those castings! Kurt was pretty close though. Those pilots look so wicked. Im just completely blown away. Can I pay for mine now...

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Thanks guys. I'm refining the casting of the parts now so I'm getting quite quick at it. That said, with each kit having 100+parts its still quite a job. The top and lower hull alone take up a whole evening to lay up and then I have to leave them for about 36hrs. Shame my new job has coincided with all this as I'm totally knackered :confused

I'm currently working on 4 kits which cover the first two people on my list, then I'm dropping back to doing just 2 kits at once ( Next 2 are for you Kurt). With four full sets of parts I simply don't have enough room to lay them out! These hulls are pretty large.

I can start to feel myself getting into a bit of a groove now, I think limiting myself to two at once will make things more manageable and actually speed up my turnaround.

PS: I'm gonna need a BIG rest after this before I think about an Awing!

Stay tuned

Nick

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

This is an incredible kit. Any idea if a person can get on an alternate list if anyone on the first list doesn't follow through, or if there is a second run on these?

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Hi,

First 4 kits are cast up, I will be spending this week on a bit of cleanup for the hulls and packaging. I will start the next 2 for Kurt next week. Definitely going to tackle just two kits at once from now on. Working on 4 is just too much. My girlfriend is being very understanding at the moment!

Cheers

Gday Nick. Just seeing how production is going along?

No worries or hurries my friend. I am just pleased that you took the time to make a quality kit.... and an amazing one at that! :D I thank you again for doing so! (y)cool:thumbsup Please thank your girlfriend as well for her patience please. ;) Without their (girlfriends, fiance's and wives) patience I fear we would see very little in this hobby and industry. ;)

Thanks again Nick!.... and Nick's Gfriend! :D

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Too bad I don't live by you. I would have shown up with a compressor, some pressure pots, and a six pack of beer all ready to help out. :)

I am getting excited about these beasties! :) I can't wait! :D

That stated.... Nick... just as an FYI for ya.... Clay's order arrived at the MT Meyer Studio shop safe and sound. When you are ready to go with my two... I will be sending to that same shop to have them built. ;) Aside from a few other great artists that live elsewhere, and individual artist participants, they have become the official shop for the Modeler's Miniatures and Magic Gallery. ;)

I sent you an email yesterday. :) I am totally looking forward to these beautiful kits you have crafted my friend! OUTSTANDING!!! (y)cool:thumbsup

Please thank your girlfriend once again for her patience with this project. It is very much appreciated. :)
