Dune Ornithopter 3D print

Saw the movie before Christmas and Just need to have one of these ships for the shelf.
The file was purchased from Gambody and was sized up by 350%.



It only took 10 days to get to this stage.

Here are a few build photos.


Due to the size of the model the wings would be too heavy in resin for the joints so I am making the wing from foam board and plastic sheet for the detail.

Here is the wings one 3D printed and the other fabricated from foam board with styrene detail.

There still a piece missing to the wing a out side rail, I will have cut later and add it to the wing.

Fantastic wings! So sharp.

Fitting the laser cut wing rail.


Added a space to keep the gap even.

Start the weathering of the wings.
Paint olive Drab 2
Apply a wash of desert sand.
Wipe off with a rag.
Wait to dry
Then give it a light sand with some fine sandpaper.

First setup of the wings

All finished with the wings attached it is over 1 meter long.




To have the wings extended will require the the wing to be fitted with steel rods as the resin connectors are not strong enough to hold their weight.
