I’m curious about the process of making the rings. Do they cast the rings and then plate them with gold via electrolysis? Or is the process slightly different?

Hey! Here's the two prototype versions made through metal 3D printing. They'll go up for charity auction in the next week or two, raising funds for clean drinking water in developing nations and will be delivered to the winners by ~Dec 20th. These prototype rings are not the final version, which will be cast, not 3d printed, and will have a more uniform professional finish, and won't be available until '22.

How will these auction rings differ from the production rings?

The black finish will be more close to the screen used prop, more uniform and in the right spots. The auction ones are 3d printed and the limited production ones will be cast. Winning the auction gets you both the 3d printed metal auction ring and a future cast one.
