They look amazing!
I've always fancied a working DS, however I seriously doubt there is a chance of getting something that looks so lethal into the UK nowadays.

You should give the version of the EFNY Main Title that is on the EFLA soundtrack a listen. I think it would work even better and although I did not like EFLA, I think the Main Title track is "harder" and "edgier" than the original. PM me if you want to give it a listen.

I don't really even offer them anymore. But, those who know a bit about them tend to appreciate the price much more than the casual collector. It's a complicated piece and those who own them spent a good long time tracking one down in most cases.
I have enough parts to get a few together but haven't decided for certain what I'll do with them if anything at all.

I love this prop, I am lucky enough to own one of the unmodified originals from the movie and this looks and works in exactly the same way. Be great to have an updated versin that doesnt rely on the water/calcium carbide reaction for the flame though.... Very cool piece of work indeed!!

Reading between the lines, that sounds pretty expensive. Especially judging by the prices many replicas half as good as this one fetch. Looks worth it though.
The sort of price that makes me feel very casual about my collecting :lol

For what they are Ry could sell them for twice the price.

It is actually a 70's design that has been improved greatly.

He just reworked the valving so that it's much safer and more reliable as well as he changed the loading system so that you can have the carbide cylinder almost sealed before adding water to eliminate the awkwardness of getting it sealed up before the chemical reaction begins.
I have the static version but would have loved to have the functional one if I were able to afford it.

I wish you hadn't posted this. The more I look at it the more I want it and all others seem like a poor substitute. :cry
It's like having a E-11 that actually fires bolts of light.
The DS is in my top 5 hit list. I just hope you still have one in the corner of your workshop by the time I can save up for one.
Thinking about it there shouldn't really by a problem shipping to the UK, if you sent it in a couple of bits, perhaps marked "fire lighter" or something?

A few years ago (before the stupid clampdowns) I had two TV versions shipped from Oz to the U.K. for me and a friend.
Customs telephoned me to ask what they were, and I explained honestly exactly what they were - they were happy with the explanation and the guns were delivered.
Custom's main concerns were projectiles.

I always thought that butane in a tank, would be a good update for this but as I'm no expert on that sort of thing I would imagine its been tried and discarded as a solution. Calcium carbide is a devil to find, transport and store safetly. Certainly within the UK anyway!
