Drunken moron steals Dragon*Con Tolkien Track property!

Good cops lol. Apparently you can steal stuff easily there. Then again maybe they think nothing of someone roaming with a cutout. The kid looks like a burnt out stoner.

Saying something looks suspicious at Dragon*Con is a very hard thing to do. The cops are there to make sure nobody gets hurt. I saw a fist fight in 2010 and 4 cops tackled the guys.

Maybe make some signs and shirts for next year with the jerk's face on them.

A friend of mine took the photo. The hi res one is already on here:

That's the highest res of him I have at the moment, with his badge atleast. I have a bigger version of the chest-up photo, that someone sent to me. It's a good shot of his face, but I'm trying to find a better one showing the badge.

She is a friend of mine, who had no clue -_-, unfortunitely. We were in our Marriott hotel room when this happened. We got a call saying it was missing, and then another one that some guy was roaming around with it. By the time we got to this friend, the guy was nowhere to be seen.

The thing is, she wasn't the only one who got a picture with him. Another person I know, got the straight-on picture of him. Since he was taking so many pictures with people, I don't know why more haven't surfaced -_-.

They stole Onkelpsycho ??? :cry

Are you talking to me?!?

If you talk about me, make sure I will see it... :lol

And no. No-one stole me, that would be a little more expensive than 80 bucks... ;):angel

Sorry, to hear what happened...
On the other side: Be glad, it wasn't something rare what costs a little fortune...

I've checked through all my pics and unfortunately I don't seem to have a pic of him. I will check with my friends who attended the con with me; one of them literally took thousands of pictures, there's a chance he'll have a pic of the turd.

Sorry your standee got stolen... but with 50K people attending DC and a great deal of them being intoxicated, this sort of stuff happens. Not that it makes it right, but it's just part of it.

This year while in the Marriott my wife was wearing an "eternal" membership badge on Friday night. A random young woman approached her, complimenting her on her dress... than just reaches over and tears my wife's badge off and takes off through the crowd.

Several of us chased her and were able to detain one of her friends. We drug him to DragonCon security and explained the situation. He even admitted to knowing the girl who stole the badge. Outside of kicking him out of the hotel (for not having a badge or Marriott room key), security said they couldn't do anything.

It was frustrating... but when it comes right down to it, it's just part of the "cost" of the weekend.

I recognize the shirt but I can't remember where I saw him wandering around at Saturday night, or if he had the Standee yet, I *THINK* it was on the middle floor of the Mariott but I'm not even close to sure.

Holy crap. Wow. Just...and security did NOTHING?? That's straight up stupid. Especially being an eternal badge, and she was literally accosted! Did they atleast replace her badge?? I'm so sorry that happened to the both of you! I hope some sort of justice was accomplished, or can be. Eternal badges are expensive enough. This just makes be believe that the con should be shut down to non-badge holders entirely.

I haven't looked into how eternal badges work, but do you just get one badge for life, or do you have to pick up a new one every year?

And yes, alot of people spotted the guy. I'm not betting the security will do much of anything...but they may be able to ban him for a while from the con, atleast. If not, I can atleast have a few choice words with the little snot!

Several people tell me that DC is getting worse for people going just to make fun and ruin things. I have it on good authority from a friend that a football team appeared during DC last year and made it hell on people.

Those douches weren't going to be a problem this year. People weren't allowed in host hotels without a badge or hotel key.

Also have to add that last year's opposing team was LSU. They have a horrible reputation, and have acted like asses elsewhere. The year before was Alabama, and they weren't bad at all...little bit of taunting and making fun of, but I don't believe there were cases of violence. I think there were one or two drunk football hecklers.

This year was Boise State, and I barely saw any contingent from their side. Probably because it was a bit of a drive for a college football game, *shrugs*.

I had much less of a problem with them this year than I had or heard of in the past, only 2 jerks tried and start a fight for no reason with me (same incident).
Happened while I was on the phone trying to get help for some guy that was found unable to stand and had severely lost a fight with Captain Morgan. Stay classy football fans, stay classy.

*does the badge maybe say 'Ethan'?

Your biggest problem is that the security people will most-likely not care about this.

"He stole what? A cardboard cutout of an elf? And it happened a couple weeks ago? We have bigger problems to deal with, honey..."

Even if you figure out his name and/or you confront him in the future, he can just say "Nuh uh".

He said...she said.

The pic doesn't prove that he illegally removed it from the premises. I once got my pic taken with Carrie Fisher. That doesn't mean I stole her. Capish?

While I think this stinks and he should be fried, I am not hopeful that anything can be done. I was a convention dealer for many years and have had a few items stolen, and unless you can literally PULL THE ITEM out of the person's hands...there isn't much you can do.

It is probably a write-off. :unsure

I would let it go.

Are you trying to say, "capiche"? Well don't do it, 'cause it hurts my ears when you do it.

:lol

I can also confirm this. The hotels on Fri and Sat night were a severe drunken mess. Not to mention the fridge/cooler that was thrown through the 10th story window at the Hilton, and the overcrowded areas in Marriott and Hyatt. :/ It's kinda sad that my very first D*Con put such a bad taste in my mouth. I would love to go back, but I am a bit hesitant on spending so much money on a con that I could very well not enjoy due to idiots..
