Drunken moron steals Dragon*Con Tolkien Track property!

I can also confirm this. The hotels on Fri and Sat night were a severe drunken mess. Not to mention the fridge/cooler that was thrown through the 10th story window at the Hilton, and the overcrowded areas in Marriott and Hyatt. :/ It's kinda sad that my very first D*Con put such a bad taste in my mouth. I would love to go back, but I am a bit hesitant on spending so much money on a con that I could very well not enjoy due to idiots..

It is unfortunate that idiots like this that go to D*Con as it will probably cause a great many of the fantastic costumers and dealers to stop going and the D*Con would suffer greatly for it. So if better security and or more restrictions for those who go to the Con don't change then the downfall will be on their shoulders. I have not been to a Con yet but have been talking about it for the last 3 years, I am now reconsidering going as this is supposed to be for fun and not having to watch your back with having this stolen or being acosted.

I've been going off and on to DragonCon for a bit; I definitely preferred when the hotels weren't selling alcohol outside of the bars (pretty sure that used to be the case a few years back.) Last year when I went they were selling it in the lobbys, in the ticket lines, outside the exits... :darnkids

I still enjoyed my time there during the days, but was happy to get the heck out of there after hours.

Ooft. What happened to him?

( Also WHY?! Was there not enough skin on show for him, or something?!? )

I had always wanted to go to D*Con after hearing about it back in 2005. But yes, the only thing that will get me to go next year is private group gatherings/photoshoots. Walking around the con itself was just stressful, not to mention all the drunk half-naked chicks running around and into you. >.< I would also like to add just how much I LOATHE the whole "OMG, look at meeeeee, I'm wearing nothing but a few strips of duct tape!111!1!!1!" trend that I saw during the after hours... I'm all for skimpy costumes, but not when it's obvious you aren't even trying to show off more than your udders and buns..

Also have to add that last year's opposing team was LSU. They have a horrible reputation, and have acted like asses elsewhere. The year before was Alabama, and they weren't bad at all...little bit of taunting and making fun of, but I don't believe there were cases of violence. I think there were one or two drunk football hecklers.

This year was Boise State, and I barely saw any contingent from their side. Probably because it was a bit of a drive for a college football game, *shrugs*.

I'm glad to hear that any Bronco fans represented well. Most people I know that went down flew in and out. We were at the Vegas bowl last year and several Ute fans were idiots. I'm not sure where the team hotel was.

Yes by all means please dont go around the girls with skimpy and next to nothing on, it makes it easier to see them and I will thank you for that. lol

honestly the girls in duct tape and pasties made me laugh, and the guys oogling them and desperately taking pictures made me giggle like a school girl
really like if you get to this age and are that desperate to see boobs I feel sorry for you.

We were lucky- never had any issues with anyone. But then again we did avoid the binge drinking parties and where in bed by 2 am. Granted I am 6' and my boyfriend is a 6'2" retired army MP so we are not easy to pick a fight with.

That being said the sheer mass of drunk people in the hyatt did become opressive at times and there were TONS of people without badges on.
I was very rarily asked to show my badge and even then it was only after dark and when going into one of the hotels when we finished marching in the parade.

I found security to be basically nonexistent - I saw the cops a few times but they were few and far between, even at night.

If you want some form of justice, albeit certainly not a legal ramification, then some of the chan sites are pretty notorious for tracking people down. Probably not a wise idea to post the particular one, but if you google /b/ that is a great place to start.

So any updates on "The RPF's most wanted *********?"
The nerve of some people... in looking at the posts, I'm gonna guess that if there wouldnt have been booze at the event, it may have not happened. Maybe Dcon should look into some type of Beer garden, but not alow it out on the floor. Tho, maybe they do that already...never been to Dcon, just CC.

nerftheherder- I would love that suggestion.
I don't know what the policies are but I can guarantee you that at least this year they were selling alcohol everywhere.

I am actually amazed that the city and the police department allow so much public intoxication on the street.

@Auryn- I'm a police officer and I gotta say, anytime you combine booze, half naked women, and people looking for trouble (of any kind) you are gonna have a problem... really a shame to hear its that out of control. I like beer gardens. Have a brewski or two, go walk around, go back to the garden. Gives ya a break form all the minors, and you don't get wasted, well you shouldnt get wasted if you go walk around and such...

So DB is bad word on here??? Thats what was **** out of my last post...

hehe good to know SurferGeek ;)

nerftheherder- the drinking is bad, but it is easily avoidable.
This year was our first time attending D*C - really our first time at any kind of Con.
Thursday and Friday were pleasant all through the evening. We kept going back and forth between the Hyatt and the Marriot
Thu night there was a good number of people, there were people drinking but it was a very chillax kind of atmosphere, very few skimpy costumes and the ones that were there were done well- no nudity for the sake of getting your picture taken.
During the daylight hours there was no crazyness.
Saturday the sheer number of people is a bit opressive.
There were definitely lots of people there on saturday that are there to hoggle but we didn't encounter any hostility or stressful situations because of it. It just makes it a little harder to get around.

Is this our guy? Probably not since this picture was taken in 2006, but the resemblance is amusing. I just happened across this shot on a collection of "(mostly) sexy female stormtroopers" link.. :lol

(Apologies if this is any of us! :lol)

We've been attending for three years now, and have really had no issues with drunks at all to speak of. Yeah Friday and Saturday night are hellah crowded, but we always have a blast.

Whenever you have that many people around, there are always going to be issues of one kind or another, be it theft, excessive drinking, ect.

D-con is definitly not for you then. :lol

Seriously though I stopped going in 2000 and the private room parties are the way to go.

If you get board you can always go out and see the show in the lobby!

not to mention all the drunk half-naked chicks running around and into you.

About the name badge, are these things purchased and printed at the door or ticket window? Or do people buy these in advance online? If so, there has to be a record of everyone that bought one, no?
