Re: DREDD 3D Lawgiver kit by morganthirteen & joatrash (Briefly open again!!))
Here's what I recommend regarding the paint scheme. I'm a huge fan of Duplicolor paints and primers. They're available in rattlecans from most auto parts stores like Pep Boys and O'Reily's. They make a black primer that is perfect. It's important to remember that I use talcum powder as a mold release, and as a result there's no need to wash the kit parts when they show up. In fact, I've done most of the clean-up already and added a light coat of Duplicolor primer (hot rod gray) to even out the gray finish of the resin (I use the gray instead of the black because it de-emphasizes the weapon look of the piece, which is important because more than a few of them ship overseas).
A light sanding with a 300 grit paper or a piece of gray scoth-brite pad can give a nice machined look once the finished paint is applied, but is not necessary. I use the black primer and then a finish coat of Dulplicolor's Trim Paint (which is also black). This can be then dulled a little bit with a top coat of KRYLON's Matte Finish (also in a rattle can). To me, this gives the pieces just the right amount of sheen, and it also protects the paint from being easily rubbed or scraped off. You can then use any number of techniques to weather the piece, including airbrushing flat black onto the vent areas or some light dry-brushing over the "high-wear" areas of the shell. I recommend leaving the visible Glock areas of the casting since they wouldn't weather quite the same way. The visible ammo casings look like they were aluminum with a machine or gun metal gray used for the slugs.
