Dragonslayer Ornstein from Dark Souls Costume WIP

So it has been a couple years since my last major costume project, I finally decided on my next build, having been playing Dark Souls way too much the last few years I am going to make the Dragon Slayer Ornstein armor. This will be a long project and a lot of it is still in the planning stages. My goal is to make it out of EVA foam, but I want it to be pretty durable, so I am still undecided whether to cover the foam in worbla, or preferably some kind of coating (I've been looking into the rigid Creature Cast and I know Smooth-On has a variety of products) .

I started off with some pepakura paper templates that I have been converting for foam.

So far I have finished building the structure of the helmet (prior to adding any details).

Up next will be the breastplate... I want to make sure I get the scale right before I start working on it.

That looks fantastic. Currently working on Ornstein as well. Building up to the helmet slowly as it seems one of the toughest parts.

Great start and I'm looking forward to seeing more progress. Working on the breastplate myself at the moment and will be interested to see how you plan to do it.

Thank you! I've been following your build thread as well, amazing work and inspired me to finally get started of my build!

I am planning to tackle the breastplate next as well, Have been trying to figure out the scale right first before I begin (don't want it to be too bulky, but also not too small so the head doesn't look right). I still don't know exactly how I will make it open up so I can put it on, I am thinking some kind of clasps under the arms that connect the front and back pieces (Its what I did on my last armor build).

Thanks very much. I've never had anyone say that before and it means a lot. I really need to get round to updating that thread at some point. Made a fair bit more progress since the last post.

I know what you mean with the opening. In the end I came to the conclusion that I couldn't think of a way to satisfactorily get a flush closing so have made it in one piece. It's a tight fit but it does work. Kind of defined my scale with that by making it as tight a fit as I could.

Not sure if it's of help but I adapted the templates for a Faraam chest by 'how to make cosplay props - gyakuyoga' which I found to be a good starting point, particularly for the shape of the back part.

Don't suppose your foam files for the helmet are available anywhere? I've been planning something different for the face and neck but they'd be a big help for the surrounding sections when I get to that part.

For the helmet, I was actually able to find a foam template, which helped alot, here is the file, you will need Pepakura to open it:

Can't wait to see more progress photos of your build!!

Made some pregress on the breastplate , finished the stomach portion. It is slowly coming together.

More progress over the weekend, completed the basic form of the breastplate. Its really form fitting so I still need to figure out where to split it up so I can wear it. Next up will be the shoulder pads.

This is so cool! Are you ever going to finish this? Your Daedric build has been both an inspiration and very useful reference images for the set I'm working on right now, and I'd love to see more stuff from you!

Aww thank you! I've been making good progress on it, I'm just not good about updating this thread, I post most of the pics on instagram (@creepyboris) and facebook. I was hoping to have it done by now but life and other stuff got in the way, but it will be done!!
