You're going to need to remove the cheap plastic mesh, and the lenses. After removing them, you will need to carefully trim those areas with an exacto knife. My grill needed to be cleaned up quite a bit. There is also excess plastic that holds the lenses in place that you need to carefully trim away. You won't find lenses that fit perfectly. I ended up having to lightly heat mine up to reshape them in order to fit.
Sanding and priming is key to getting a good paint job. After painting the black and gunmetal segments, I took it to an auto body shop for the clear coat. Unless you've got special experience and training, I don't recommend attempting the clear coat. It's impossible to use a rattle can to get it nice glossy look. Some people recommend using spraymax 2K. The problem is, it is sometimes hit-and-miss, and you don't want to end up with orange peel.
