Donnie Darko Frank the Bunny - Original Mold

That is SUPER cool!(y)thumbsup:thumbsup Did Frank get a lot of attention at Comic Con?

I want to wear it, but I want to act like this while wearing it...

The Easter Bunny Hates You - YouTube

I did get a lot of attention.
I was walking through the crowd and James' enterouge (sp?) Asked me if I could stop for a picture. I was geting stopped every few steps. I expected to be another person until I realized it was him. That was the high point of the con.

You in that costume would be a southern version.

"I reckon ya'll got 28 daaays... 6 hours... 42 minutes... 12 seconds. That... is when the world... will end. Do ya here me boy? "...Sorry I had to take it there. :lol

:lol:lol:lol

Just wait. I did a couple of video interviews recently, because Star Wars Chick wasn't there to do them, and when people hear the accent, I am never going to hear the end of it...

planet, yeah, the guys are right. We don't allow the posting of live auctions.

Since you posted it, I can tell you that the mask in that auction isn't tied to my mold in any way. That mask is a custom sculpt and doesn't have any match points. It is a really nice sculpt but worlds apart from what I have.

Also, if I were to make any available, I would sell about 10 or more for the cost of that one!

Sorry about that just trying to lend a hand. You got my vote if you ever do decide to share them for that price :)

Oh Man I am so Jealous. Incredible find. If I would have seen the auction I would have snatched it in a heart beat. If you offer castings let me know. I have been making Frank costumes for years now. And when I made my sculpt there was very little reference except for screen caps that, if I remember correctly, I downloaded from your old Brak's buddy website. I always knew my sculpt was a little off and slightly undersized. Eventually I was going to re-sculpt the mask when I made my own personal costume for display. If you offer pulls I won't have to. There would be nothing better than owning a pull from the original mold (except of course one of the original screen used masks but that will never happen). Congratulations once again.

This was mine from SDCC this year.

Awesome picture, is that one of my costumes? I'm pretty sure I made the mask. What a great experience

Art, I've never thought of you as having a thick southern accent...

I guess that means I have one too if I can't hear it? :lol

WOW, that mold is awesome bud! If it wasn't the original, it was definitely made from the screen used mask!

But I wouldn't doubt at all it's the real deal! There is a lot of crazy detail in there...

Just awesome.

Congratulations! :)

Couple more quick shots. Sorry for the watermarks. Don't want any eBayers using these to sell their masks.

Will take a full photo set later today.

And again, this is no slam on Ronculus, but I love seeing where my journey for Frank has taken me... from the original sculpt we commissioned to this. We have come a long way!

Ronculus really did a great job making his custom sculpt! As with all he makes. His Gizmo is still the best IMHO.

But the new Frank just... that's it!

So, here is where we are at with the testing right now. From what we can see, the original masks were made of a soft foam that had dried out and hardened over the years. So, we did two tests, one with a soft self-skinning foam and one with a rigid self-skinning foam.

There are some notable differences. First, one the rigid foam, we went with a grey base so that the areas in which the silver topcoat missed, you still see a close to correct color. This makes for an "idealized look" as it changes the overall color of the topcoat. The soft foam version used a more natural yellow/tan colored foam which, as you can see, shows through in a number of areas and even changes the overall look of the silver. This more closely matches the originals, but looks less appealing.

The other thing I have noticed is that the rigid foam seems to have captured the details more clearly and shows all the etched lines in perfect detail whereas the soft foam looks, well, softer. The details are not as apparent.

Another thing that I have noticed quite a bit in the movie and with some of the originals after the film is that the "V" shape created by the ears can change quite dramatically. If you notice, the V on the soft foam head is wider than on the rigid foam head. That is because I am using pins to pin down the sides of the head to a foam mannequin head and when you pull back the sides of the head the ears widen. You can see this happening in the movie as well. In certain shots the ears appear wider than in others. The flex of the mask is what causes this. If you widen the face, the ears become almost parallel.

Anyway, we are going to do more testing and do at least a couple more masks before we get it right, but I thought I'd post these up for you to look at.

First are the photos of the soft foam mask:

And here is the rigid foam mask.

One other thing to note is that in trying to wrestle the rigid foam mask from the mold, a small bit of one of the teeth chipped off as well as a piece off the back of the head. It is really tough to get the rigid foam out of the mold due to undercuts.
